Description

Animals A2/B2 (very first pressing)
This A2/B2 pressing was the first one pressed and is highly collectible.  Both the gatefold and lyric are in great condition with minor wear only.  No splits on the inner!

The audio on S1 is Ex+ (Near Mint in many sections)
The audio on S2 is Ex+ (The intro on the first track is VG)
The gatefold cover is Ex+ (would be Near Mint but for the marking on the back)

Visual grading
Overall for a first pressing the vinyl is very clean and only has a few hairlines on either side.  There is one small scratch near the edge on S2 that does cause a few clicks as detailed below but otherwise the audio is of an excellent standard.  There is only a very small amount of spindle on either side so this record has only being lightly played I would say.
Play grading
'Pigs on the Wing1' plays with extremely clear audio and with only a hint of static in a couple of places.  For an A2/B2 first pressing it is rare for this quiet track to play so well.  There is a minor amount of background static on the 'Dogs' intro but it is just that, in the background.  It then plays with exceptionally clear sound but with some light static again during the first quiet section about 5 minutes in.  Thereafter the audio is of stunning quality and has almost no 'background'.  There is a little distortion on the louder end section but that is very common on this LP.  The majority of the side plays with Near Mint audio but I will grade as Ex+ due to the light static in a handful of places.  Most sellers would not even mention this.  I am 100% thorough in my gradings as my feedback testifies and the static here does not interfere with the listening.
'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' does have a number of clicks on the intro but then plays very clearly with only a hint of quiet static here and there.  There are no further clicks or pops and the audio plays to an excellent standard.  The clarity and depth do not disappoint and the guitar section at the end plays exceptionally well.  For a 40 year old vinyl the very quiet 'Sheep' intro plays very well and has no intrusive clicks just some light intermittent static.  Thereon the audio plays with excellent clarity but with light static again in a couple of the quieter sections.  The end section plays with stunning power and resonance and the quality has not diminished after all these years.  The ultra quiet 'Pigs On The Wing2' ends the LP superbly with barely any interference, a stunning finale.  For such a quiet track to play so well on a first pressing is a rarity.
Gatefold cover
The G & L gatefold cover is in lovely condition and at first glance appears Near Mint.  The edges and wide spine are in superb shape with hardly any wear and the opening edge also has almost zero handling wear.  The front cover is extremely clean and is very rarely found like this today as it so often suffers from 'spotting' or worse.  The inside of the gatefold is also in beautiful condition with no marking or spotting at all.  A fantastic example.  The only obvious wear is on the back cover where there are a few white scratchy type marks on the tracklisting area and above.  If not for that the gatefold would grade easily as Near Mint.  The remainder is very clean with only minor wear on the bottom corner.
It has no bar code as per the early pressings and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder.  In the lower right corner, it says "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
Lyric sleeve
The cardboard lyric inner has the rounded corners as per the first pressings and has no splits to the sides, how rare is that?!  The left hand edge does have a very small area of rubbing but, as I say, there is no split.  Other than that there are only a few tiny 'rubs' on the edges.  One of the cleanest inners I have seen it remains in excellent condition.
It has the 9-inch thumb notch on the edge with the catalogue number 'SHVL 815(I) in the lower right corner'.
The Labels
They are both in fantastic condition with no marking or writing and only a very small amount of spindle wear.
