ANIMALS A2/B3
This rare A2/B3 pressing is in wonderful condition for its age. The A2/B2 first pressings were manufactured in relatively low numbers and as the A2/B3 matrix numbers were produced at the same time they are generally considered as first pressings also. What is very rare about this particular pressing is that it has no Stamper letters on the run out grooves, only Mother numbers.

Visual grading
Under a strong bright light I can only detect a few very faint hairlines no doubt caused by sleeve removal. There are certainly no scratches and is an extremely clean looking vinyl, hard to believe it is nearly 40 years old.
Play grading
There is no lead in static to 'Pigs on the Wing1' and it then plays with audio that is so sharp and clear it belies its age. There is one click during the track but no other interference, stunning sound quality for a vinyl of nearly 40 years. The audio on 'Dogs' plays to a wonderful standard with only the merest hint of static in a handful of places. With new vinyl you often have light 'dust clicks' and that is all you have here. There is no intrusive static at all and the clarity is stunning and has no clicks or jumps. As is often the case the ending does play with a little distortion which you commonly find with this LP.
Side Two has absolute minimal lead in static so you know you're onto a winner again! 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' has very slight static at the beginning but again is so much in the background as to not be intrusive and plays to an excellent standard. There were four clicks during playback and some very light static but in all honesty the audio still plays with a real depth and richness and it's worth reiterating that you do not find audio as good as this on an A2/B3 pressing. The very quiet intro to 'Sheep' plays superbly with only a hint of intermittent static, none of the loud crackle you so often hear. Thereon it plays with an excellent depth of sound with no clicks or jumps obviously, just some light static in a few places but again it is so quiet and very much in the background. Exceptionally good audio for an LP nearing 40 years old. 'Pigs On The Wing2' ends the side with stunning clarity and no background noise at all, a fantastic ending.
Gatefold cover
The original G & L gatefold cover is in amazing condition, without doubt one of the best I have ever seen, and is almost Mint such is the quality. The edges and wide spine remain in superb shape with barely any rubbing. There is minimal shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine but let's face it this is what happens to a gatefold sat on a shelf for nigh on 40 years! It is hardly noticeable. There is also very minor rubbing on the top right hand corners. The remainder of the gatefold is superb and it would be extremely difficult to find a cleaner one. No marks, writing and barely any creasing which is so prevalent on this cardboard cover. The opening edge is also very clean with no handling wear. I do not exaggerate but this gatefold is as close to 'new looking' as you will find.
It has no bar code as per the first presses and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder. In the lower right corner, it says "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
Lyric sleeve
The cardboard lyric inner has the rounded corners as per first pressings and is one of the better ones I have seen. It has no splits which is very rare! It is extremely clean with only a couple of small creases and minor rubbing to the edges. It has the 9-inch notch on the edge that opens and in the lower right corner is the catalogue number "SHVL 815(I)"
Labels
In superb condition I can hardly detect any spindle wear. No marks or writing at all.
