Animals is the tenth studio album by Pink Floyd, released in January 1977. A concept album, it mixes soaring music with a provides a scathing critique of the social-political conditions of 1970s Britain, and presents a marked change in musical style from their earlier work. Animals was recorded at the band's studio, Britannia Row, in London. The album's iconic cover image, a pig floating between two chimneys on Battersea Power Station, was conceived by bassist and writer Roger Waters, and photographed by long-time collaborators Hipgnosis.

Animals was loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, its lyrics described various classes in society as different kinds of animals; the combative dogs, despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning herd" of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals."

Apart from its critique of society, the album was also in part a response to the punk rock movement, which grew in popularity as a nihilistic statement against the prevailing social and political conditions, and also a reaction to the general complacency and nostalgia that appeared to surround rock music. Drummer Nick Mason later stated that he welcomed the "Punk Rock insurrection" and viewed it as a welcome return to the underground scene from which Pink Floyd had grown. In 1977 he produced The Damned's second album, Music For Pleasure, at Britannia Row.

In his 2008 book Comfortably Numb, author Mark Blake argues that "Dogs" contains some of David Gilmour's finest work; although the guitarist sings only one lead vocal, his performance is "explosive". The song also contains notable contributions from keyboardist Richard Wright, which echo the synthesiser sounds used on the band's previous album, Wish You Were Here. "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" is audibly similar to "Have a Cigar", with bluesy guitar fills from Gilmour.

A deep rich black gloss covers the vinyl. Sits perfectly flat and plays like it was made yesterday. 

A truly stunning vinyl. A mirror like reflection and 100% top audio reproduction.

I have listened to the entire LP and it really is an almost flawless copy. A superb listen totally uninterrupted from any continuous hiss, crackle, clicking, popping and so on. 

From start to finish, near perfect. I think maybe once or twice I heard an extremely mild click but really nothing you wouldn't have expected. Some mild static in quiet places/between tracks but again, nothing you wouldn't already expect and in no way obstructive to your listening. In certain light a few wispy marks can just been seen. This is down to the type of inner sleeve it's issued in. Instead of the paper/poly sleeve it comes in a cardboard sleeve. Even while been transported from manufacturer to the shop it will more than likely suffer minor surface marks but it's really nothing to be concerned about, no effect to play. 

This is one reason why this LP is so darn hard to find in Top condition but please rest assured this one has Top Audio.  

Sleeve - EX

Only the very, very first issues received a wide spine like this one. Thick, chunky and unmistakeable. A clear sign of a 1st issue. 

A top sleeve all over. There is a small amount of storage wear along parts of the edges and spine but only minor wear, no rips as such and shown in pics. Apart from this very mild and soft storage wear, the sleeve is a very close contender for NM. It's solid all over with straight and rigid edges and spine. Clean cut opening edges and just a small amount of edge/ring wear. Opening the gatefold runs smoothly with no awkward folds. A clean and defined centre crease and a smooth, clean and factory fresh inner gatefold. Comes with original inner lyric sleeve, also a close NM example.
