Description
This first issue of Animals has to be one of the best, if not the best I have ever heard. The audio quality is quite simply astounding. I have play tested the LP in its entirety and there is barely any crackle let alone anything worse. I think I heard two small pops during the playback. For 38 years old this has to be heard to be believed! The clarity of the sound is stunning and it retains that wonderful glossy sheen of a new vinyl. Under a bright light the vinyl again looks stunning and I could only detect one small scratch on Side One but it does not affect the audio in any way at all. There are a few of the faintest hairlines visible but these I am sure are caused by the removal of the record from the heavy duty cardboard sleeve. Again they in no way interfere with the almost perfect sound quality and are probably not even worth mentioning! This vinyl is almost 'as new' and for a first press is very rare to find. I very rarely grade vinyls as Mint but this is not far from it! Again I cannot stress just how good the sound quality is of this first press. It would be a great addition for any die-hard fan.

The original Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover is overall in excellent condition and has retained its shape extremely well. There is some shelf wear to the edges and to the top and bottom of the spine and a little white 'spotting' towards the top of the cover. It has a clean opening edge and retains a strong wide spine that is 100% legible. The inside of the gatefold is in excellent condition also with just slight creasing to the spine.
The cardboard lyric inner (with rounded corners as per first pressings) is in excellent condition with one small ring mark and a little wear at the bottom of the sleeve. It has the 9-inch notch on the edge that opens and in the lower right corner is the catalog number "SHVL 815(I)"
Overall this is a quality first press and would grace any collection.
I would grade both sides as Near Mint
The gatefold cover is Ex
The lyric inner is Ex The labels are Mint
