Atom Heart Mother A-1G / B-1G (no EMI logo - mega early first pressing)
This very first pressing is in excellent condition. Being a 1G/1G press it of course has no EMI logo on the labels.
SHVL 781 // A-1G / B-1G // RD 1 2 & AG 2
The audio on Side One is Ex to Ex+
'If' on Side Two is VG+ and the remainder is Ex+
The gatefold is Ex-
The labels are Near Mint-
The inner sleeve is Ex+
Visual grading
Under a strong bright light this vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen. There are no scratches and only a handful of very faint hairlines caused by sleeve removal. There are no marks anywhere to be seen on this 47 year old vinyl and I don't think I have seen better. There is some spindle wear but it has always been very carefully handled judging by its immaculate look and even the run out grooves are spotlessly clean.
Play grading
There is some light crackle at the start of the title track but it does decrease and then only has non-intrusive static here and there. There are no clicks or pops and the sonic quality of this classic is excellent. For a track with so many quiet sections it plays extremely well and the more I listen to it the more I am impressed! Apart from the light static this will please any Floyd collector. I must emphasis the static in my opinion does not intrude on the sound quality and still plays with great clarity.
'If' plays with light crackle but again is not particularly intrusive. The second half of the track has less crackle but at the end there are three pops. 'Summer '68' is a highlight and plays with stunning audio and almost no interference. The quality is Near Mint it is that good. 'Fat Old Sun' has very light static at the beginning and I mean very light! The track plays with wonderful audio throughout. 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' plays with fantastic clarity and only very minor intermittent static. For a first pressing is it is rare to find this quiet track play so well and the second half in particular plays superbly well with only a couple of pops.
It is worth noting that on a manual turntable the drip at the end will continue endlessly until the needle is lifted off the record. This occurs on all 1G/1G issues and was pressed in that way so that would happen.
Gatefold cover
This G & L gatefold is in excellent condition for its age with some shelf wear. The edges are very clean but the corners do have some rubbing. The bottom right hand corner does have a little creasing. The spine also has some rubbing. On the whole the front cover is very clean with only a handful of very minor marks and one small crease. The inside is in superb condition, one of the cleanest I have seen. The back cover again looks great and only has a handful of very small marks.
As per the first pressings it has on the inside "7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patent no 943,895 SHVL 781" in the lower left hand corner.
Inner sleeve
This includes the original Harvest die-cut inner advertising 'Ummagumma' and 'The Madcap Laughs' amongst others. It remains in excellent condition with only some creasing.
Labels
The yellow/green labels, with no EMI logo, are in excellent condition with only some spindle wear, no marking.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.
