Description
Atom Heart Mother A-3 / B-3 (Early pressing)
This early pressing is relatively rare as on pinkfloydarchives.com there are no pressings listed with the A3/B3 matrix. A2/B3 and A4/B3 are listed as second issue pressings so I imagine this one is the same so whilst not a very first pressing it is a very early one nonetheless.

The audio on Side One is Ex

Visual grading
Under a strong bright light the vinyl is in a beautiful condition and still has a stunning glossy sheen. There are only a handful of extremely faint hairlines but in all honesty it looks as new! There are no scratches at all. I can only see a couple of minor spindle lines on the labels confirming this vinyl has been hardly played. Overall a lovely looking vinyl for an early pressing.
Play grading
The classic title track has a little crackle at the beginning but this soon dissipates. There are a few light clicks about 5 minutes in but overall the audio is of an excellent standard with only mild background static here and there. The second half in particular plays with high quality audio and very little interference. In fact the clarity is excellent throughout when you consider how many quiet sections there are. A handful of light clicks yes but a superb listen overall.
'If' on Side Two has only the lightest of background static and the clarity again is first class. The only thing that lets it down is approximately six clicks during the playback and apart from that is plays as Near Mint. There is a crackle/hiss type sound per revolution on the first half of 'Summer '68' but it isn't particularly intrusive and the actual sound quality again is excellent. 'Fat Old Sun' has exceptional audio for such a quiet track and only has very minimal intermittent static, negligible really. The intro to 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' plays with stunning clarity and continues to play with immaculate audio and is without doubt one of the best versions I have ever heard. I only heard one click and this is as close to Mint as you will find.
Gatefold cover
The G & L gatefold has some shelf wear but remains in very good condition. The edges and spine have some rubbing as do the corners. This is more obvious rubbing on the bottom right corner. Whilst there is some very faint marking on the front and back, the inside of the gatefold is in great shape. A little ringwear on the back cover also. The opening edge is very clean and looks barely handled.
As per the early pressings it has on the inside "7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patent no 943,895 SHVL 781" in the lower left hand corner.
Inner sleeve
This has the original plain white inner sleeve with patent number and is in excellent condition with no splits or tears.
Labels
The yellow/green labels are in superb condition. The S1 label only has a couple of minor spots that are barely visible. There is also hardly any spindle wear, just a couple of faint lines.
