HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB, UK HARVEST RECORDS (SHVL 815) VERY FIRST ISSUE (January 1977) OF PINK FLOYD'S TREMENDOUS, “Animals” LP

THE LP HAS THE HARVEST CUSTOM PICTURE LABELS WITH THE FIRST ISSUE A-2U / B-2U MATRICES AND IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL MATTE, GARROD & LOFTHOUSE PRINTED, WIDE SPINE GATEFOLD SLEEVE COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL THICK CARD LYRIC INNER SLEEVE

A BEAUTIFUL SET AND A TRULY WONDERFUL LP
NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN ANYTHING APPROACHING NEAR MINT CONDITION AS THE THICK UNTREATED SLEEVE IS SO EASILY WORN AND RUBBED, THE INNER SPLIT AND THE VINYL SO OFTEN DISPLAYING LOTS OF SURFACE NOISE AND CRACKLE - BUT NOT THIS COPY WHICH RANKS AS ONE OF THE FINEST IF NOT THE FINEST I HAVE EVER OFFERED FOR SALE!!


FIRST ISSUE CRITERIA:
SLEEVE: NO barcode on the cover. Original release has a thick cardboard cover with the left side of the gatefold sealed with a fold-over, and in the lower right corner of the inside cover it says "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse ltd." (7701 = January 1977)
INNER SLEEVE: Black cardboard inner sleeve with lyrics. Original issue has round corners, and a 9-inch notch on the edge that opens. In the lower right corner of the second side, it says "SHVL 815(1)." Later issues have square corners, no notch, and no catalog number on side 2
LABELS: Barking dog picture label. Inconsistent rough/smooth finish sometimes roughly pressed
Text around the top edge of the label starts at 9 o'clock and says:
EMI Records Ltd. All rights of the producer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved.
Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 7 o'clock and says:
Made in Great Britain. Unauthorized public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited.

THIS LP IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO FIND AS AN ORIGINAL UK FIRST PRESSING, AND WITH ALL ITS ORIGINAL FIRST ISSUE UK COMPONENT PARTS IN SUCH WONDERFUL CONDITION - VERY SCARCE

Of all of the classic-era Pink Floyd albums, Animals is the strangest and darkest, a record that's hard to initially embrace yet winds up yielding as many rewards as its equally nihilistic successor, The Wall. It isn't that Roger Waters dismisses the human race as either pigs, dogs, or sheep, it's that he's constructed an album whose music is as bleak and bitter as that world view. Arriving after the warm-spirited (albeit melancholy) Wish You Were Here, the shift in tone comes as a bit of a surprise, and there are even less proper songs here than on either Wish or Dark Side. Animals is all extended pieces, yet it never drifts -- it slowly, ominously works its way toward its destination. For an album that so clearly is Waters', David Gilmour's guitar dominates thoroughly, with Richard Wright's keyboards rarely rising above a mood-setting background (such as on the intro to "Sheep"). This gives the music, on occasion, immediacy and actually heightens the dark mood by giving it muscle. It also makes Animals as accessible as it possibly could be, since it surges with bold blues-rock guitar lines and hypnotic space rock textures. Through it all, though, the utter blackness of Waters' spirit holds true, and since there are no vocal hooks or melodies, everything rests on the mood, the near-nihilistic lyrics, and Gilmour's guitar.

LABELS: SUPERB - CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO wear, NO marks or writing and only a few light spindle traces evident when angled under a bright light. This copy has clearly only ever seen light play
VINYL Visual: The vinyl has a DEEP, LIKE NEW GLOSSY sheen and is completely UNMARKED. BEAUTIFUL VINYL
VINYL Audio: STUNNING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, VERY SHARP and VERY STRONG. As usual, the soundscapes PINK FLOYD create on this LP are totally mind-blowing with an astonishing dynamic range and there are NO scratches, NO jumps/sticks, NO clicks/pops and barely any surface noise (really, hardly ANY) - extremely rare for this LP. This copy DELIVERS AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING LISTENING EXPERIENCE ON EVERY FRONT FROM START TO FINISH and must be very critically graded as MINT(-) and a finer copy of this LP I do not think you will find. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME (not a word I use very often)
SLEEVE: The gatefold cover is also in SUPERB condition. Very little of the wear/rubbing so often associated with this easily worn untreated sleeve. The THICK spine is straight and true with all text SHARP and CLEAR. Beautiful example (see pics). NEAR MINT
INNER SLEEVE: Again, SUPERB condition. NO wear, NO marks, NO scuffs but most importantly NO splits (which is extremely rare for this inner). Can only be described as MINT. The LP is now housed, and will be posted in a new inner to avoid any damage to the original during transit
