So many copies of DSOTM being offered for sale seem to be a mix and match of parts from later pressings, but this one is complete and 100% original throughout, with the original black poly-lined inner sleeve, earliest fully matt posters, earliest ‘PERMANENT’ stickers and the correct, original 'midnight blue' cover with a sealed and folded left edge.

This has the first press matrix numbers, as follows:

Side 1: SHVL 804 A-2

Side 2: SHVL 804 B-2

Vinyl: The vinyl has retained its original high sheen with some fine hairlines and sleeve-removal marks, but there's nothing significant anywhere. I have played the entire record and it sounded great with little to report. Please note that this copy does NOT have the pressed skip in 'Money' often found on first pressings - there are no jumps or skips anywhere. There was some background noise in the run-ins/outs, fades, segues and silent parts, the occasional isolated click, but there's nothing intrusive. In general, both sides sound better by the end of the side than they do at the start of the side. I would say the the play-grading by the end of each side is Near Mint (NM) but at the beginning of each side it is lower. To account for this I am going to give the whole album a play-grading of Excellent (Ex) overall, but acknowledging that the starts of the sides are lower than this and the ends are better.

Labels: Both labels look great with no damage, writing, stickers etc, just some mild spindle marking.

Sleeve: This is the original 'midnight blue' cover. It has some normal signs of wear and age but nothing bad anywhere.

Inner sleeve: This is the original black, poly-lined inner sleeve. There are no seam splits or tears just some slight creasing and minor signs of handling and use.

Posters: These are the original posters. They are the absolute earliest examples printed on FULLY MATT paper and they are nearly impossible to find. So many of them have been substituted for later posters which have a sheen. These original matt posters have never been on display and so have no pin-holes, sellotape, blu-tac etc, just some age-related discoloration on the the rear panels which are on the outside when the posters are folded: I’ve shown the rear of both posters in the photos.

Stickers: These are the earliest PERMANENT stickers with the wavy-lines on the backing paper. These pre-date the 'Crack-Back' stickers found with later copies. They are both unused, although there are some signs of age, in particular some discolouration and a corner-crease to the light sticker.

Detracting features not covered above:  None. This is a genuine 1st pressing and it is 100% complete and original throughout.

All photographs are of the actual item for sale. Please ask any questions before you bid or buy.

Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below) and are visual gradings only, unless the listing specifically states that it is a play-grading.

I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
