Description

The Dark Side of the Moon A2 / B2 (First Pressing - Solid Blue Triangle)
This highly collectable album plays to a fantastic standard with hardly any interference.  I have listened to the album twice and some sections more than that and I can confidently say it is one of the 'cleanest' I have heard in many a year.
The 'midnight blue' gatefold is also in excellent condition with only very minor shelf wear and hopefully the photos do it justice.
The original posters and stickers are in superb condition.  The original black poly-lined inner has only a little wear.
The international shipping cost is high as extra insurance is required

Visual grading
This 'solid blue' vinyl is one of the most visually stunning I have ever seen.  It has a superb mirror-like glossy sheen and under various lights I cannot detect a single hairline, scratch or mark.  There are only a couple of faint 'bag rash' areas but these can only be seen when the record is held at a certain angle, they are only very minor.  There is also not very much spindle wear and has certainly not been played too many times.  There cannot be many that 'look' as good as this.  The labels and run out grooves are also super clean.  A fantastic example.
Play grading
The 'heartbeat' intro on 'Speak To Me' has only a little static and there are no clicks, pops or crackle at all.  It is minimal when you hear the spoken section and the build up to the next track plays with great clarity.  A very impressive start overall.
The intro on 'Breathe' then plays with stunning clarity and barely any static.  There is one light click prior to the vocal and the playback thereafter is so strong with no 'background' at all.  The definition of the audio could not be any better and the warmth of the sound is tangible, something you only get with vinyl.  Even with the click this deserves a Near Mint- grading as the remainder of the audio is just so good.
The segue into 'On The Run' plays with Mint precision and it continues to play with incredible depth from that point on.  There is nothing to detract from the audio here.  There is no obvious static and the playback is stunning with no clicks or pops.  The 'bomb' has no distortion and the quiet 'running man' section has hardly any static and you can hear all the background 'music' with no problem at all.
'Time' has very light static on the intro and the clocks then chime perfectly with no intrusion.  The following tick / tock instrumental has barely any static and the audio is superb!  Not one single click or pop.  Once the vocal begins the audio is 'high end' and there is no interference whatsoever, the playback is stunning!  Gilmour's solo then plays with great power and there is no distortion on the top end.  Wow it is so good!  The remainder does not disappoint and is of the same standard.  This is a wonderful version of this timeless classic...if you'll forgive the pun!  With only minimal intro static this grades as Near Mint I am confident in saying with no obvious interference at all.  In a word...stunning.
'Breathe Reprise' is another fine example of a vinyl very well preserved and only sparingly played.  The clarity is exceptional and is Mint- without question.
'The Great Gig In The Sky' has only static on the intro but again it is so minor as to be non-intrusive.  Once the vocal starts the playback is as powerful as could be, the clarity exceptional and it could not be improved upon.  Wow this is 'as new'!  The following quiet vocal then plays very clearly with a minimal touch of light background static, it really is very much in the background!  I'm not sure it's worth a mention really!  Of course the end section is so quiet and yet the only obvious static is right at the end really.  This track plays with wonderful clarity on the whole with not one single click or pop.  Very impressive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Money' has only 3/4 light static ticks on the intro and the first two verses then play with faultless Mint precision.  There is no interference of any kind.  The long instrumental section then plays to the same immaculate standard - the saxophone and guitar solos sound as good as they did when first released back in '73!  The power and clarity is breathtaking and what is impressive is that there is no distortion on the top end.  The final verse and spoken fade out also play 'as new'.  I write what I hear and never knowingly over-grade my LPs and this is confirmed by my feedback.  Accept for the minor 'background' on the intro this is pure Mint audio.
The segue into 'Us And Them' is nigh on perfect and the quiet intro begins perfectly but after 30 seconds or so there are a small number of quiet static sounds but they are not intrusive.  They really are very quiet and the music is still very much to the fore.  This 'background' soon disappears.  As the sax comes in the playback is first class and this clarity is also evident during the first verse.  The first chorus is stunning and resonates with great power and depth and the remainder does not disappoint either.  There is one faint click on the final verse but despite this I think the track is worthy of a Near Mint- grading as 98% does play 'as new'!
'Any Colour You Like' is another prime example of a vinyl so well preserved and only lightly played down the years.  The definition of the audio is so strong and there is not one iota of interference.  Another Mint- track.
The quiet intro on 'Brain Damage' has to be heard to be believed!  The playback could not be any clearer and it plays with immaculate precision to the very end.  This may well the 'cleanest' version I have ever listened to and this is an A2/B2 first pressing!  There is more often than not some distortion but there is none here whatsoever.  So as to adhere to RC standards I should grade as Mint- but I know perfection when I hear it!   'Eclipse' ends this classic album with a little inner groove distortion but this is to be expected.  It is still a fantastic listen and the distortion is only minor anyway.  There are no clicks or pops and the 'heartbeat' ending is so impressive with barely any 'background'.  A stunning end to one of the finest first pressings I have ever listened to.
In summary this A2/B2 first pressing cannot fail but impress even the most critical of collectors.  With only two clicks there is very little interference on either side and indeed much of it plays with Near Mint / Mint- quality.  The clarity and precision of the audio is so impressive and the 'midnight blue' gatefold is also a great example of its kind.  A stunning 'package' overall.
The Gatefold
The 'midnight blue' gatefold is very impressive and is unquestionably one of the 'cleanest' I have ever seen, not heavily marked like so many.  The edges are in superb shape with hardly any rubbing and the spine is close to being perfect with only a couple of tiny rubs near the bottom corner.  Only the bottom right hand corners have a little wear and even then it is only minimal.  The other corners have very little wear and remain in great condition.  The opening edge is very clean with only a small number of minor indents/creases.  The front cover is so clean and has barely any fading and there are no marks or scratches which is quite rare!  There is a just a couple of very minor, barely visible small creases near the right hand edge.  The back cover is equally as good with one minor crease and one tiny tear/crease on the top right corner.  The inside of the gatefold is near perfect with barely any fading around the edges.  Overall a lovely example of this iconic cover.
Original Black inner sleeve
This is a fine example of the original die-cut black poly-lined inner sleeve.  It has the patent numbers and 'Made in Great Britain' in silver text on one side and there are no side splits at all.  There is just one very small 'window' tear and a little creasing here and there.
The Labels
The 'solid blue' labels are both extremely clean with no writing or marking and as stated not a great deal of spindle wear.  They have lost none of their original 'solid blue' colour.
The Posters and Stickers
One poster has a matt finish and the other glossy but the original owner assured me this is how he bought the album back in '73.  They are both in superb condition with no marking or tears.
The 'CrackBack / FasPrint' stickers are in great order with only one of them having a couple of faint crease lines lengthways.
