Pink Floyd : The Dark Side Of The Moon MFSL - 1017 A2 / B2 Limited Edition 1981
ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING (Complete)
This MFSL recording plays with stunning quality on both sides.  There are no intrusive ticks and there are no clicks or pops either.  Where I have graded a section as Near Mint this is because of a small number of minor statics or a couple of very light ticks.  Essentially there is no actual interference and the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is incredible.  This is precisely why these pressings are so collectable because of that enhanced depth and definition and it is very much in evidence here.  You can tell the difference, sonically it is definitely an improvement and that is even more obvious with this vinyl because it has been so well preserved.  It has been played, as there is some spindle wear, but it has not affected the sonic quality in any way.  I cannot emphasise enough just how strong, deep and clear the audio is!
The gatefold is in very good condition but with many excellent aspects.  There is one small split on the bottom edge of the back cover but overall it certainly 'cleaner' than the vast majority you see today.  It comes complete with four inserts which all remain in superb condition.
I believe this is a 1981 pressing of this classic recording because the ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING on the front cover is in italics and the pressing info on the inside (starting with Half-Speed Mastering...) is just to the right of the credits.  The vinyl was of course pressed in Japan and the cover printed in the USA.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a small number of ultra faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out.  There is no groove or surface wear and  the run out grooves are very clean also.  The MFSL labels are very clean with only a couple of very faint smudge print marks and some spindle wear, not too much though.
Play Grading
The heartbeat intro on 'Speak To Me' plays with stunning clarity, there are only a couple of minor static ticks, and already the enhanced warmth and depth of the audio is very evident.  As it builds the playback is flawless and this is easily a Near Mint start to the album.
The segue into 'Breathe' is perfect and the intro section is just as clean.  Gilmour's opening vocal has no intrusion either and the second verse is just as impressive.  A Mint- version at the very least.
'On The Run' then plays with sublime quality from start to finish.  Once again the depth and resonance of the audio is exceptional and I only noticed a couple of minor statics in the middle section.  The end 'crash' is very powerful and deep and there is no distortion.  The quieter running man section has no interference, only a small number of minor statics.  I will grade majority as Mint- and the end section as Near Mint
The segue into 'Time' and the chiming clocks could not play any better!  The instrumental passage then plays with that familiar depth and there is zero intrusion, the clarity is incredible.  The first verse / chorus play with stunning precision and Gilmour's first classic solo is so clean and 'fresh', I can't fault it.  The final vocal section is as good as the first and Mint- is very much deserved.
'Breath Reprise' impresses on every level with literally no background not even on the fade out.  Mint
The delicate piano intro on 'The Great Gig In The Sky' plays beautifully with only a handful of barely audible statics.  Wow what sound!  Torry's first vocal is perfect and I just have to mention the clarity of sound here - this is of course what MFSL are renown for.  You can hear every subtle nuance in the music, you kind of hear more compared to the standard pressings.  Is it a hammond organ or a mellotron in the background.  It comes through so clearly anyway.  As the volume builds the playback is spectacular and there is no distortion.  The quieter closing section ends proceedings nicely with only the lightest of background static here and there but believe me it is so quiet and totally non-intrusive.  I only mention it to be 100% 'complete' with my grading.  This classic is Mint- for the vast majority and Near Mint for the final section.  It truly is a STUNNING version.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The iconic intro on 'Money' is superb.  The cash register section is perfect and Waters' bass section is more or less the same with just one mega quiet static at the start.  The opening vocal section is 'as new' and the instrumental section plays with imperious quality also.  It goes through many stages of course and they all play to the same high end standard. Every note so clean and succinct and the power and depth of the audio is out of this world!  The final verse has no background apart from a couple of very quiet statics and the 'spoken' end section has only a couple of very quiet ticks towards the end.  I think Mint- is a fair and honest grade for this track.
The intro on 'Us And Them' plays with wonderful clarity.  Ok a hint of static at the beginning but it is so so quiet and soon dissipates.  The sax has no background and the opening vocal is near perfect with only one minor static.  The first chorus is immense!  The power and depth of the audio is outstanding and the next verse / chorus section is on a par with that.  The first A2/B2 pressing is sonically very impressive on a clean vinyl but this really does take it to another level.  The 'spoken' / mid instrumental section is faultless and the high powered section soon after is deafening... in a good way!  The next vocal section again plays with sublime clarity with next to no static and the final chorus just perfect.  I will say this classic ranges between Near Mint and Mint but certainly a lot more of the latter.
'Any Colour You Like' plays with genuine quality also.  A greater depth and resonance again and for once Gilmour's mid solo section has no static distortion on the top end.  A Mint- version for sure.
The unmistakeable intro on 'Brain Damage' is perfect and Waters' opening vocal is the same really with only a couple of barely audible statics.  The first 'chorus' is so strong and clear and again the depth on the audio is astonishing.  The next vocal is nigh on perfect with only a handful of extremely quiet statics.  The remainder plays with the same intensity and there is no interference.  The concluding instrumental / spoken section is indeed perfect.  In essence there is no interference and Mint- is well deserved once more.
'Eclipse' ends this classic album with phenomenal audio throughout.  There is no inner groove distortion and the power and definition of the audio is again taken to another on this MFSL pressing.  Seriously it is one stunning version!  Even the quiet heartbeat ending plays with tremendous clarity.  I played it three times and it got better each time!  Mint-
The Gatefold & All Inserts

The cover is in very good condition with only one obvious area of wear.  Three of the edges are very clean with hardly any rubbing but the bottom edge of the back cover does have a split in the centre about 5cms long.  The wide spine is in superb condition with very little wear on the corners and the right hand corners have only minimal rubbing.  The right edge of the front cover has some 'rubs' although the opening edge on the back is exceptionally clean with no obvious handling wear.  The front cover is often found with a fair amount of surface rub / scuffing but this is definitely one of the cleanest I have seen.  It has no real marking and you can only see light wear on three of the corners.  The back cover has a very small amount of surface rub and a handful of edge creases next to the spine.  The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition with only minimal spotting near the top and bottom edges, it is very faint.  Aside from that one smallish split it is a very strong example.

This edition contains 4 inserts and they are all in superb condition.  The MFSL questionnaire is the only one that has a very small faint mark on the front.  The original anti-static inner sleeve has only a couple of minor creases.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
