I have very sadly decided to sell the remainder of my own record collection over the next few weeks. It is varied in its content from 60/70's Folk/Rock, incl rare Zeppelin and Floyd 1st presses, some Beatles and Dylan,including Japanese presses, various now deleted Audiophile pressings and female vocal. Some records I have owned since new, others I have carefully selected and picked up along the way. I have always tried to collect the best and earliest copies.

I will keep descriptions as simple as possible rather than do elaborate advertisements.

Whilst I have owned the records they have only ever been played on either a Michell Orbe or SME Model 20 turntable, both fitted with SME V tonearms and quality cartridges such as the Lyra Delos. My last phono stage was the Reference Whest PS 30RDT SE coupled to Vitus amplification and Sonus Faber Cremona M speakers. Not only has this been a revealing system, giving me an accurate assessment of all records played on it, but it has, I hope, always looked after the vinyl.

I clean all my records on an Okki Nokki RCM before putting them in new Nagaoka anti-static record sleeves and plastic outer sleeves. They have always been very carefully stored in a smoke free enviroment.

I will grade using the Record Collector system, erring on the side of caution as I have sold the SME. I am also selling the phono stage and cartrige. I am happy to discuss details with any buyers.

This record along with a number of others, had been owned since new by my Uncle. He passed it on to me a few years ago. I have hardly played it, maybe only 3 or 4 times, as I have had many other versions of this record to listen to.

Outer Sleeve  -  EX+++.  This is truly hard to fault. Others may grade higher. There is not a single crease to the whole front cover. The rear cover has what may be called the very beginnings of a couple of creases to the top and bottom edges, each maybe 5 or 6mm long only, but these are seen only when held at an angle to the light. The spine is perfect. You would have to be extremely picky to say there was any edge or corner wear. There is a just the beginnings of colour loss on the inside foldout were the two covers have touched in places over the years but this is so minor I would imagine that it would normally not be mentioned.

Inner Sleeve, Postcards & Posters - N Mint.

Labels - N Mint. Just 3 or 4 light spindle traces to be seen in bright light.

Vinyl visualy - N Mint under normal light. With bright light, faint and very fine surface lines can be seen, the type caused by record removal only. There are no other types of marks that I can see at all that would be caused under any other conditions and there are certainly none that you would listen out for. It is stunning for its age, now 40 years old

I have seen quite a few of these records advertised recently that do not have much information, if any, in relation to vinyl play of the record so I played this through from start to finish on my SME listening whilst recording the following results:

Vinyl Play - Overall EX+.

Side 1 - There are a few seconds at the very beginning of the very lightest surface noise and occasionally with "Great Gig". After that, it is so rare to hear anything at all. This is so quiet, incredible for its age. I have had new records recently that have more surface noise.

Side 2 -  This side is like Side 1, being superbly quiet and totally distortion and 'click and pop' free except during "Us and Them" only, where there is very occasional light surface noise in one or two of the quiet passages and toward the end, two slightly louder 'pops' heard together. But otherwise this is superb and better than any other copy I have heard.

NOTE: There is a very tiny "dimple" in the vinyl, there from new, at the centre of the record which is outside of Side 1's playing surface but is at the very end of Side 2 almost at the run off point. You can play the record and be totally unaware that anything is there at all. Only if you deliberately listen very very carefully, can you hear what sounds like a bass note as the needle reads across it a couple of times.

These 1st Press English DSOTM's are acclaimed because of their superb dynamic range, particularly in the bottom end and this one certainly does not disappoint. It is also incredible to hear all the layer upon layers of sound effects and multi tracking that was done in the studio and can be heard only on these originals. I remember playing this on the SME to a friend, a musician and Floyd fan, and within minutes he could not believe what he was hearing. I think his words were "Where has all this been? I have never heard half of this before. I thought I knew this record!!!"

This is a superb overall copy of this rare Solid Blue DSOTM.
