Description
Here is a nice collector's copy of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London between June 1972 and January 1973, and released on the Harvest label, catalogue number SHVL 804
Pink Floyd's 8th studio album, this is the original form of the release, it has the solid light blue prism LP picture labels with silver lettering, (later pressings have an empty prism). It comes in a midnight blueish tinged gatefold sleeve complete with original black inner, 2 posters and 2 stickers.
The thick, heavy vinyl has some visible paper scuffs but is beautifully glossy and plays excellently with a deep warm clear sound as it was pressed direct from the original masterplate. On it Pink Floyd use some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops, analogue synthesizers in several tracks, and a series of recorded philosophical quotations interspersed throughout.
It has A2 and B2 matrixes in the deadwax run out groove
'The Gramophone Co.' text starts at 10 o'clock on label. The label track listings use small letter (a) (b) etc
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold sleeve has slight ringwear and edge nibbling but is undamaged and has the small round sticker with white text on purplish-black stating 'Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon', which only the very first copies have.
The tracks inside the cover are numbered. The cover sleeve, designed by Storm Thorgerson, depicts a prism dispersing light into colour and represents the band's stage lighting at the time
The inner sleeve is an EX+ polythene lined die cut black semi matt paper with white printed text stating 2 patent numbers at the bottom left 112555/1072844 and 'MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN' at the bottom right.
The 2 folded posters, and the 2 stickers printed on reverse with diagonal lines and 'Fasson' 'FasPrint' and 'Crack-Back', are in MINT condition
This LP is a special and unique piece of rock history.
