Description
This is a first issue Dark Side of the Moon, released in 1973 on the EMI Harvest label SHVL 804 with the matrix on the wax end - A2 / B2. Also on the wax end are the markings GDT and in very small etching G1 on both sides. If it is G1 then this is one of the first batch ever pressed. The etching is tiny but I am sure it is G1. http://pinkfloydarchives.com/DUKLPPF.htm#DSOTM1 27.09.12 Just had a look at the markings with a magnifying glass, personally, I would forget about G1 and stick with GDT as it has been stamped as opposed to etched, strange though, the GDT is only stamped on one side. The cover is in excellent++ condition with a little wear on the corners, it has been stored separately from the album and inner sleeve in an ambient temperature. It is gatefold with only one opening for the album. Printed and made by Garrod and Lofthouse, the summary is in a turquoise blue. Track listing and lyrics are in white print. The cover is matt black / blue / green depending on what light you are looking at it in. I would go for blue personally. The only downside is that there are two drawing pin holes inside the cover which do not in any way detract from the quality of the cover. The album sleeve is black with the polythene inner, it has a sticker on it, don't know how that got there ( perhaps I had two of these albums ) but I have owned this album from new, there are no rips or cuts in the inner sleeve either. The vinyl itself is in excellent condition apart from two marks on side one which do not affect the playing of the album in any way, my Linn LP12 reproduces the album perfectly apart from the normal clicks and pops. As mentioned, the matrix is A2 / B2 which notes a first issue. The label has the solid blue triangle, the label has a smooth finish as opposed to a contract print and has the wording 'Gramophone Company' on the left hand side. The stickers and posters are still in the original condition, the posters haven't even been opened out for use. All in all, an excellent example of this rare copy of the album. I am not a trader, just a music lover who is now splitting his collection and was lucky enough to buy this one in 1973. I have been as honest as I can with the description.
