Please do not be put off by my lack of feedback ratings on this Ebay account. I have been selling vinyl for over 20 years, but have just started using this account as a secondary account which I will use to sell items for others. My other account is used by members of my family to buy things, so if I need something secret, presents, gifts etc I use this account. Regular buyers of vinyl records may recognise my other account, which has my username as floyd67-10.
For sale here is a 1st UK pressing of Pink Floyd most iconic album "Dark side of the moon". The matrix numbers are A2 / B2 and has "The Gramophone Co Ltd" text around the rim. Housed in the first issue dark blue sleeve with the poly lined black inner sleeve with the patent and cat numbers printed in silver/grey on the bottom edge as per first issue. Both posters and postcard/stickers are present and in great shape. This album is in lovely all round condition as I will describe below.
From a collection of a friend who has decided he wants to free up some space in his cupboards from the 2000 plus albums he currently owns. I have sifted through some of them and currently am concentrating on the Pink Floyd section. My friend is a bit of a Floyd fanatic and bought most of his albums in the week of release, if not day of release. This particular first UK pressing has the iconic solid blue triangle labels and extremely early mother / stamper combinations of 2 PO and 1 PH. Not many come up for sale with such early mothers and stampers as these, and the sound quality of the vinyl is first class. As seen in the photos, the midnight blue cover has the larger 68mm purple "hype" sticker and comes complete with both posters (printed on a heavier matte paper than the glossy later type) and both stickers. All in quite superb condition.
Anyway, history lesson over and down to the nitty-gritty.
The cover is the midnight blue colour, only found on the earliest pressings. As this has been stored inside a polythene outer protective sleeve almost since new, it has only the very slightest sign of edge wear to bottom and top edges and the spine is almost perfect too. I will happily send more photos if anybody wants more (Ebay only allow 12 photos on the listing). Just as a nice piece of historical note, inside the vinyl compartment is a sticker from the shop where it was originally purchased, Boots the Chemist of Sidney Street, Cambridge. The hype sticker is perfect. There is some very light colour fading where it has leaned against other albums on a storage shelf. Front and rear are in great shape and the inner gatefold is almost as new. This is a really good example of this cover and as I am being very strict on my gradings due to its value, Strictly to record collector guidelines this grades VG+.
The inner sleeve is, as already noted, the original black poly lined, as supplied with the first pressing. It is in fantastic condition with barely a wrinkle to be seen. Has the patent numbers and made in Great Britain text in a silvery type. This is as good an example as you could find and easily grades EX.
Both posters are unused with just the usual fold creases. The pyramid poster has the wide border as per first issue, not the narrow border from later copies. No pin holes, tape marks etc etc. Graded as Ex.
The postcard/stickers are in great shape. The brown has one light crease in one corner and I grade as Ex. The yellow one also has a light crease on one corner as well, both from being caught in the hinge of the gatefold cover. This one grades as Ex.
Now for the vinyl. Still a lovely looking copy visually. Retains a nice black sheen. There is some light sleeve removal marks evident in strong angled light. Labels are nice and clean but have some evidence of spindle marks. Mother/stamper combinations are.... side 1 2/PO, side 2 1/PH.
PLAY-GRADE:- Referring to my notebook that I use when play-grading any vinyl that I sell, I have actually made almost no comments. Side 1 starts quietly, plays superbly well. The quiet section at the start of "Time" is excellent too. The whole side plays without skips or sticks, no unwanted clicks or pops. A fantastic detailed and clear example. Side 2 has no issues noted at all. This album plays beautifully and I feel would grace any collection. Hard to believe it is nearly 50 years old now. You certainly would not believe it from the sound quality, no doubt helped by being such an early first pressing. I would grade visually as Ex, and on listening, the audio quality as Ex. A top copy.
If you have any questions at all, just ask. I will describe any part, take any photos, or whatever. I believe in a private communication I can send 5 photos directly.
I will NOT sell to Russia or any of its allies. If you bid on this collection your bid will be cancelled, so please, JUST DO NOT BOTHER.
I have opted to show the price for first class signed for postage with the Royal Mail. The cost shown (£5.05) is exactly what it costs me. Unfortunately Royal Mail have just increased their prices YET again! I do not profit on postage costs. My packaging is absolutely second to none, and will be reinforced to hell, so be assured it will reach you just fine. Postage overseas will be through the Global Shipping Programme.
Good luck if you decide to bid on this fantastic genuine UK 1st press of one of the all time great albums that should be in every collection. This particular album would indeed grace any collection.
Please check out my other listings. Some rare and UK first pressings of Pink Floyd albums on offer.
