Description

Quite simply, this is one of the three most important and influential LPs of the '60s (and possible of all rock history) - the others being (in my humble opinion) The Beach Boys' PET SOUNDS and The Beatles' REVOLVER. This is "THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN" by PINK FLOYD. It is an original FIRST PRESSING (matrix = YAX 3420-1/YAX 3419-1) on the Blue/Black COLUMBIA label, cat#SCX 6157: STEREO. The cover is in a superb so-near-mint-as-makes-no-difference condition:. Please study the pics below. There seems to be some confusion out there regarding the "File under.." text that appears on the back of some covers. I have heard it said that these mean the record is a second pressing. Not so. EMI changed the style of ALL their covers to include the "File under" text (meant to help the record dealer display the item correctly) at the same time. Clearly they did not abandon the pressing run of this (or any other album in production at the time) and start a second pressing run to suit the new covers! Rather, they simply housed the FIRST PRESSING discs in the new-style cover. So.. the DISC is a first pressing - or it would have a matrix suffix of 2 (obviously), but the COVER is indeed the later version. I hope that's sorted THAT one out! The labels are nice and clean and unblemished with only faint spindle-marking: labels carry the "sold in UK.." text and "GRAMOPHONE COMPANY.." text in capitals. The vinyl has plenty of sheen and plays beautifully BUT there IS a radial mark on the first few seconds of side two which does cause about six 'ticks'. Other than that there are just a few very light non-sounding 'paper' marks caused by removal/replacement to the inner sleeve. Which, by the way, is the original sepia 'advert' style.
