Pink Floyd / Meddle

1971 UK Harvest, Catalogue Number SHVL 795. This is an original 1st issue with "The Gramophone Co. Ltd..." text around the tops of the record labels, and the 1st issue fully-textured Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve. [The matrix numbers and stampers are SHVL 795  A-1U  1  L and SHVL 795  B-1U  1  GN?]

The fully-textured gatefold sleeve (inside and out) is in EX condition with only the lightest signs of wear and barely any creasing at all. The front and back covers and gatefold spread are unmarked. The spine is a bit flattened, but the text is perfect. Overall it's a really excellent example of this notoriously fragile sleeve.

The record is solidly pressed and sits flat and true on the turntable. Visually I would grade both sides as being in VG+ condition as there are a few light surface scuffs evident (not stylus scratches) in bright light. These are just superficial and do not cause any significant audio problems. The labels are unmarked apart from a few spindle traces near the centres. Both sides play to a very high standard. There is no deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. The audio quality is outstanding - very dark and compelling. I think that it will be very difficult to find a significantly better-playing 1st pressed copy of this wonderful album.

The correct EMI poly-lined inner sleeve, which advertises other Harvest albums of the period, is in VG condition. This has some age discoloration and a short split in the middle of the bottom edge.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.

PACKAGING & POSTAGE

Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
