Description

Pink Floyd : Meddle 1U / 1U 1st Press
This first pressing plays to a superb standard on both sides with a clarity, depth and warmth you hardly ever find today.  Rarely have I heard clarity like it and there is just the one minor static click S1.  If you're lucky enough to win this incredible album just listen to the intro on each side - pure audio perfection!
It is obvious this album has hardly been played and it's not often you find a 1U/1U first press as well preserved as this one.  It is certainly one of the finest examples I have ever listened to.  A FINAL UPGRADE version in my opinion i.e. no need to find another as this audio could hardly be improved upon!
The fully textured cover is super clean with no marking (how rare is that?!) and for once the spine remains fully intact.  The original Harvest inner is also in excellent condition.
SHVL 795 // A - 1U / B - 1U // AR 1 / OD 3
The audio on S1 is Mint- (Track 1 & 2 Near Mint but Mint- or the majority)
The audio on S2 is Mint- (Near Mint for one short section in the middle)
The fully textured gatefold is Ex+
The labels are Near Mint
The original Harvest inner is Ex+
Visual grading
The vinyl is in superb condition and retains an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks, scuffs or scratches.  All I can detect under a strong light are a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines that you would expect to find anyway.  At first glance it looks 'as new' and is quite possibly the most visually stunning 1U/1U first pressing I have ever laid eyes upon!  There is no groove wear, it just looks fantastic!   There is only very minimal spindle wear and the run grooves are also super clean.
Play grading
'One Of These Days' has perhaps the 'cleanest' intro I have ever heard and this is a 1U/1U first pressing!  Of course it is so quiet and yet this 'wind' section plays with amazing clarity and almost zero static, you can hear 'note' perfectly.  As the bass comes in the playback is again so impressive with just the one light static click but there is no underlying static at all.  As the volume builds the audio is stunning and there are no negatives, the clarity and power here is phenomenal.  There is just minimal light static on the final 'wind' section but overall this classic opening instrumental easily deserves a Near Mint grade although it is fair to say the majority is better than that!
'A Pillow Of Winds' plays as a beautifully preserved should.  With only a couple of barely audible dust ticks on the intro the clarity is again flawless.  Being an acoustic track there is no hiding place but I am delighted to say it plays with great definition from start to finish.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops - there is just a very minor hint of static in a couple of sections but stand in the middle of the room and you will miss it!  It really is so quiet and I only mention it to be 'complete' in my grading.  The long fade out has only very minimal static and each note still plays with perfect precision.  Near Mint but I am sure many would grade higher!
The intro on 'Fearless' is 'as new' and there is no decrease in quality as the vocal begins.  It continues to play with outstanding clarity and no intrusion.  Once more I cannot believe just how clear the audio is and you have to remember this vinyl is very near 50 years of age, the playback is outstanding!  Such depth and precision and right through to the 'You'll Never Walk Alone' end section the audio is immaculate.  I am confident in grading this as Mint-
'San Tropez' is Mint from start to finish - the audio could not be any more impressive.  'As new' is no exaggeration, it is just STUNNING in every sense of the word.  Wow what a version!
'Seamus' is a track that often has some 'background' but that is certainly not the case here.  It plays with exceptional clarity from the first groove to the last with no intrusion of any kind.  Mint is again a fair reflection of the quality on offer here.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'sonar' intro on the classic 'Echoes' is without doubt the most stunning I have ever heard.  It is so 'clean' and we all know just how rare this is.  There is no 'background' whatsoever and and it's only when Gilmour's guitar comes in that you can detect a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  What an amazing start!  The first first vocal section is of the same 'high end' standard and it's the warmth and depth of the audio that really stands out.  I cannot overstate just how impressive the playback is and the first long instrumental piece that begins around the 5 minute mark is a case in point.  There is no interference, just a minimal touch of light static around 7 minutes but is so quiet and barely worth a mention.  It really is totally insignificant.  It continues to play with sublime clarity and with no 'muddiness' to the sound, another indication that this record has hardly been played and so well looked after.  The first part of the 'whale' section plays beautifully and continues to play with great clarity and only very minimal background static.  To be honest there is hardly any and what you can detect is so quiet and non-intrusive, this entire section is stunning to say the least.  As you reach the conclusion of this 'quiet' section the audio could not be any better - crystal clear audio - and as the music builds the playback is superb with only a handful of insignificant dust ticks.  As the volume increases the playback is Mint and for once the 'jangly' Gilmour section has no distortion.  I must reiterate the clarity and definition of the audio here is of a standard that you so rarely hear on these first pressings and the final vocal section is of the same immaculate standard.  The quiet closing section plays with such precision - no interference in other words.  This is one of the most 'complete' versions I have ever heard and Mint- is an accurate grading with only a a brief Near Mint passage during the 'whale' section.  This is an outstanding version for sure.  The sonic quality is off the scale!
In summary this stunning first press qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE in my opinion as the clarity, warmth and depth of the audio would be nigh on impossible to improve upon.  There is just one minor click on S1 but aside from that both sides play to an unbelievable standard.  This 'high end' quality is so hard to find today and the opening grooves on each side gives you a good idea of the quality to come - never heard intros as good as this!  All tracks play beautifully and 'Echoes' in particular is a real highlight.  A stunning album, both in an audio and visual sense.
The Gatefold
The fully textured cover has been so well preserved with only very minimal wear.  The edges are incredibly clean with hardly any rubbing and for once the spine is in great shape and remains 100% legible.  It has just a little wear on the corners and a small number of faint rubs but you won't find many better.  The right hand corners have only the bare minimum of wear and the opening edge is close to perfect.  The front cover is in pristine condition with no marking and the back cover is also very clean but does have a crease top left.  The textured inside is stunning and is rarely seen as clean as this - no foxing or marking, just pure white where it should be!  It can hardly ever have been opened.  The inner spine is also very strong.  A fine example overall.
The Inner Sleeve
The original poly-lined Harvest inner has no side splits or tears just a little age related fading around the edges and very little creasing.
The Labels
The yellow/green Harvest labels have no marking or writing and only minimal spindle wear as stated.  They have lost none of their original colour and look superb!
