Description
This very early first press of 'Meddle' is in very good to excellent condition. PinkFloyd archives.com have the H2 and M1 Mothers as very early pressings so this is a very rare vinyl indeed. Under a strong bright light I cannot detect any hairlines and visually it is stunning. There is just one small fingerprint mark towards the end of 'Echoes'.
Play grading
Side One plays with extremely clear audio. There is some background crackle at the beginning of 'One Of These Days' but soon disappears. From thereon you only hear a little intermittent static although not obtrusive and 2/3 light clicks. The audio plays with clarity and depth and whilst not perfect still grades as excellent. 'Seamus' ends the side with a little more crackle but for 44 years old it's still pretty good!
'Echoes' does begin with some louder crackle but does quieten down somewhat. There are no skips or clicks and is still an excellent listen but due to the background crackle I would grade this side as very good. It is certainly not perfect but if you want a first press that plays well and you don't want to pay an exorbitant price then this one would be more than suitable.
Cover
The original textured cover (inside and out) has a little wear but is in overall excellent condition. The edges are relatively clean as is the opening edge. The spine has the most wear and there is some rubbing to the top and bottom. The inside of the gatefold is in great shape and has no marks at all which is very rare for a first press gatefold as the 'white nature' of it lends itself to deterioration down the years. Not this one!
Inner sleeve
The vinyl is still contained within its original polylined sleeve and has no splits or tears just a little age related marking.
Labels
The yellow/green labels are in superb condition with no marks, writing or spindle wear at all.
