From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional barely-played example of the film soundtrack album by PINK FLOYD titled “OBSCURED BY CLOUDS”, Catalogue Number SHSP 4020. This is an ORIGINAL 1972 UK STEREO 1st ISSUE on the EMI HARVEST RECORD LABEL, with a near perfect GARROD & LOFTHOUSE LTD TEXTURED SLEEVE (with rounded corners). Complete with the correct 1st issue poly-lined EMI inner sleeve which advertises other HARVEST albums of the period. [The record labels have “THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD…” text around the tops. The matrix numbers are A-2/B-2].
The Hipgnosis designed sleeve is in EX+ condition with only the lightest signs of wear and no creases. This is probably the finest example of this notoriously fragile sleeve that you are ever likely to find. It will be almost impossible to improve upon!
The top quality record is in EX+ condition. Both sides retain a deep mirror-like "as new" shine and the disc sits perfectly flat on the turntable. The Harvest labels are like new with maybe 2 or 3 faint spindle traces each side. I can confirm that the record has only received a few careful plays. The sound quality is very impressive – extremely loud-cut, powerful and vibrant. Audio playback is MINT- throughout. There is no deterioration in sound quality and virtually no unwanted noise at all. This is particularly important for this album as there are many quiet sensitive passages which can easily be ruined by unwanted surface sound. Throughout the whole album I only noted a few tics in the linking groove between tracks 4 and 5 of Side 1. Essentially it plays as new. You simply will not find a significantly better-playing copy of this wonderful album – I guarantee it!
The inner sleeve is in unmarked EX condition with no splits or tears – just some age discoloration where the glue has dried out.
Overall this is a beautiful barely-played 1st issue copy which should please even the most discerning of collectors.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.
