This first pressing plays with wonderful quality and no obvious interference, the clarity is exceptional throughout.

The vinyl has a very healthy glossy sheen with no marking or scratches.  There are some faint hairlines but they have no affect on the stunning quality of the audio.  This record has not been overplayed judging by the audio and there is also not too much spindle wear.  The run out grooves are very clean as are the labels with only a small number of very faint 'spots' around the spindle hole on the S2 label.

Play grading  

This is one stunning vinyl!  With only minimal static on the first 3/4 grooves the title track 'Obscured By Clouds' plays with exceptional audio and there is no interference at all.  The clarity is superb and having listened to every second of S1 I can say that applies to every track.  'When You're In' plays perfectly aside from a little static on the long fade out and 'Burning Bridges' has only a small number of mega light dust ticks.  'The Gold It's In The...' and 'Wot's...Uh The Deal' are just Mint from start to finish the clarity and depth of the audio is just phenomenal and 'Mudmen' is very close to this standard with only a couple of faint dust ticks on the intro.

S2 is very similar and the super quiet intro on 'Childhood's End' is a case in point.  It has barely any static and the playback is stunning.  The remainder is 'as new' and 'Free Four' then plays as if it was only pressed yesterday aside from a little static on the fade out.  'Stay' also plays beautifully with only minimal static on the intro.  The remainder has no 'background' which is rare for this relatively quiet track.  'Absolutely Curtains' of course has so many quiet sections and yet the clarity is outstanding.  There is barely any static on the intro and it proceeds to play with sublime clarity and definition with only a handful of light static ticks right at the end.  A stunning version.

In summary this first pressing is so impressive and the vast majority plays 'as new'.  The clarity is astonishing and nowhere is that more in evidence than on the final track.  Without question this is one of the 'cleanest' first pressings I have ever heard.  A FINAL UPGRADE version in my opinion.

The Cover

The textured cover with the rounded corners is in excellent condition with minimal wear only.  The edges have a little rubbing as does the spine but the title and Pink Floyd can clearly be read, it's only the catalogue number that has worn away - the two corners of the thin pinched spine do have some rubbing.  Tthe two right hand corners have only very minor wear and the opening edge is in superb shape with no handling wear at all.  The front cover is near perfect with no marking and the same applies to the back cover.  Overall a very respectable first press cover.  

The Inner

The original poly-lined Harvest inner has no splits or marking and only some creasing with a little more on one side.

The Labels

The yellow/green Harvest labels are in excellent order with not too much spindle wear and only a handful of faint 'spots' around the spindle hole on S2.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
