This Floyd album is from the first ever 300/500 ever pressed as the mother stamps of

1 G on both A and B sides prove.

This may be a once in a lifetime chance to own a pressing of this album that came from the very first batch to be produced.

It would be impossible to find an earlier pressing of this album.

I do not usually put a reserve on my sales but as this is such a rare sought after pressing from the actual master tapes, I have to do this as this is such a valuable collectors piece.

Album will be shipped with at least recorded delivery within the U.K. for £4.25 P+P.

Outside the U.K postage charges will depend on location of buyer and method of postage required.

Front Cover:

Kaleidoscope picture of the band with "PINK FLOYD" at bottom. EMI logo in upper left corner. Laminated flipback cover.

Back Cover: The very first issues have nothing at the top right of the flipback. NO "File under POPULAR : Pop Groups" This information was added on later printings of the cover. At bottom foldover of back cover it says "6709 TPS Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London SX 6157 / SCX 6157."

Inner Sleeve:

Black printing on white paper. On the front side is the EMI logo at the top center, with "Add these outstanding LPs to your collection" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including Both Sides of Herman's Hermits, and "Patents applied for" at the bottom. On the back side is the EMI logo at the top center, with " - the greatest recording organization in the world" at the top, 16 LP covers pictured in the middle including the Beatles-Revolver, and "E.M.I. Records (The Gramophone Company Ltd.) Hayes - Middlesex - England, Made and Printed in Great Britain" at the bottom.

Vinyl Labels:

Black Columbia label with silver text, and a blue "Columbia Records Magic Notes Trademark" at the top, and a blue "Columbia" in the center.
Underneath the blue "Columbia" it says "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists."
Note: Some copies of this release have the song titles on the label in a larger font than other releases.
At the bottom of the label, it says "Made in Gt. Britain."
Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 10 o'clock and says:

The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorized public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited.

The very first pressing of this record were released in the stereo format and mono format came soon after.

Original front laminated outer, still retaining a very nice shine to the laminated front, just two or three very small creases to this, these were unavoidable due to the design and materials used. front only laminated outer sleeve.

The Spine remains perfect, uncrushed undamaged and fully readable. ( see pictures).

CONDITION GRADE: Excellent, very clean and glossy, no scuffing, ring ware, or unwanted writing, splitting, or other damage, slight signs of creasing to the laminate, as mentioned.

THE VINYL:

Visual Grading:

Excellent. The Vinyl looks in excellent visual condition, only a feathering of sleeve removal markings visible and only under very bright lighting and not visible in normal daylight, no feelable marks or scratches of any kind to be seen,

LABELS:

Both vinyl labels are unmarked even under a very bright halogen bulb, no problem grading this vinyl as excellent. If mint was ten then this vinyl is an easy 8

PLAY GRADING:

Play graded on a Technics SL200 deck and a Stanton 500 cartage

After listening to all track on both sides of this album I can say with confidence that no unpleasant audible clicks, skips, pops or skidding were to be herd or experianced.

I have never before seen a pressing of this album, with first matrix and first mothers, come up for sale.

I grade this entire album and sleeve as EXCELLEN PLUS. Within the guide lines of the Rear Record Price Guide.

Matrix Information: Matrix information is the letters and numbers etched into the vinyl near the label in the runoff groove at the end of each side of a record. Matrix information may include:

Catalog number.

Side number.

Lacquer master number.

Stamper letter. (usually found at the 3 o'clock position)

Mother number. (usually found at the 9 o'clock position)

Record pressing plant.

The engineer who cut the lacquer (for example HTM stands for Harry T. Moss).

Example: The matrix information, YAX 3419-1    G 1, found on side one of the Columbia Records pressing of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn indicates:

YAX 3419-1 is the lacquer master number (this includes the catalogue number YAX 3419)

G is the mother stamper letter

1 is the mother stamper number

Stampers are made from the Mothers. Mothers are made from the fathers. Fathers are made from the lacquers. And the lacquers are cut from the master tapes. It is interesting to note that side one of the mono pressings of Piper at the Gates of Dawn are all made from a second lacquer. What happened to lacquer number 1?

Stamper Codes: The stamper codes used by Columbia/EMI Records is based on "Gramophone Ltd." and are as follows:

G=1
R=2
A=3
M=4
O=5
P=6
H=7
L=8
T=9
D=0

Example: A record with a "G" stamper letter indicates that the record was made from the first stamper. Later pressings may have stamper numbers in combination, such as "AL" which means 38.

The album for sale here came from the 1st Mother, that came from the 1st Father, that came direct from the 1st Lacquers from the master tapes.

All very complicated but it is impossible to get a pressing that is eairlier than this one.
