Description
Pink Floyd 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' 1967 UK original vinyl album, catalogue number SX 6157 (mono)
The numbers and letters imprinted in the vinyl 'run-off' area are:- Side 1: XAX 3419-2 1 T Side 2: XAX 3420-1 1 GD
This is a heavy vinyl and it is not warped. When viewed under a bright light I can see a scattering of surface scratches on both sides, as well as a few more that are more noticeable - most are caused by bag movement, but there are a few scuffs and the more noticeable scratches have been caused by stylus contact. I can only feel one of them with light fingertip touch - this crosses the last half of side 2 and into the 'run-off' area. However, I can say without reservation that the whole of the record plays smoothly and continuously with no serious interference or distractions. In fact the whole record plays clearly and the vast majority of it produces brilliant audio. There is some occasional crackle and random light ticks and the feelable scratch on Side 2 does produce some noticeable ticks now and then during tracks 4, 5 and 6, but for me there was nothing that spoiled the enjoyment of this great classic record. There are no sticks, no skips, no jumps and, in my opinion, not very much lessening of the sound quality which is impressive.
The track titles can be seen on the label photographs. The labels have a fair amount of spindle lines - no writing, no significant damage (just a small scratch under the right hand side number 2 which can be seen in the photograph). They feature an embossed 'KT' tax code either side of the spindle hole on Side 1 and they also have 'SOLD IN THE UK.....SEE PRICE LISTS' text.
The cover is a standard single sleeve with three flip-backs to the rear. The front is coated with a clear laminate. There are about ten thumb creases near the open edge and some small creases around the edges next to the seam and spine. There is a small arc shaped cut on the lapel of Nick Mason's jacket, but it's not very noticeable and contained (certainly not spreading and not deteriorating) and there's a small split in the centre of the bottom seam which just breaks the laminate, as you can see in the photographs, but the seam itself is not split. There is minor rub wear at the tips of the corners. The non laminated back is very clean, it has a small neatly handwritten name of the previous owner in the top left corner, a small black smudge in the top right corner and minor lifting at the edges of the flip-backs. There is also an indent above the producers name, but overall this is a very clean and tidy back of cover.
The spine is in excellent condition, a few tiny hairline cross creases, but all intact and fully readable.
The inner sleeve is the original EMI company issue with photographs of other albums in their catalogue, shown in a brown/burgundy print. It has 'Made and Printed in Great Britain' on one side and 'Patents Applied For' on the other side. Again, it is very clean and fully intact, apart from a short (3cm) split at the centre of the left seam.
I have checked the record Collector grading system and I would say that the cover is 'very good+', the record is visually 'very good' but the audio is at least 'very good+' and more often 'near excellent'
I have described this as carefully and honestly as possible, but it is a no return item so please bid accordingly.
It will be packed in a strong record mailing box with two pieces of card inside for further protection.
