Description
On offer here is a very early first stereo press of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label - complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover.
Matrix numbers YAX 3419 - 1 / YAX 3420 - 1 / Stampers R1 & A1 / Cat no SCX 6157
This first press does have various scratches and hairlines and the audio quality is poor. Side One is playable with background noise and the odd skip but Side Two is unplayable if I'm honest. On this side the scratches are worse and can only be described as a filler copy. Do not bid if you are expecting a good listen!
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.
The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover does have slight wear wear although nothing serious. The laminate so often is badly creased or comes loose but not with this one. There is just very light creasing and some 'rubbing' on the opening edge at the bottom. The back cover does have SX 6157 top right right which is the mono issue catalogue number so this may have been swapped at some point. On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups'. As you can see there is also a blue stereo sticker which possibly could be removed although I would rather not try! Also there is 383 / 15/- written in the same area. Other than that the back cover is in excellent shape and the flipback has very little wear. The thin pinched spine is in excellent order and remains clean and clearly legible with The Pink Floyd. Overall apart from the sticker and writing this is probably one of the best first press covers I have seen.
The labels are actually in very good condition. On most first presses, including this one, the letters K and T are stamped on each side of the spindle hole. These are UK tax stamps and indicate that the tax was paid for this LP. At the bottom of the label it says "Made in Gt. Britain". The Pink Floyd is printed below the tracklisting on each side and of course it has the blue Columbia label.
Side One I would grade as VG
Side Two is Poor
The laminated cover is VG+/EX-
The labels are Ex
The original inner sleeve has been replaced
Any questions please feel free to ask.

I ONLY SEND ITEMS TO ITALY, RUSSIA AND SOUTH AMERICA "SIGNED FOR" AS TOO MANY ITEMS GO MISSING AND COSTS AN ADDITIONAL £6.00. PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOU AGREE WITH THIS.
I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS IF MORE THAN ONE ITEM IS WON / DOUBLE LPs COUNT AS TWO RECORDS.
ALL RECORDS ARE PROFESSIONALLY PACKED IN STRONG MAILERS WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS. THE RECORDS ARE ALSO REMOVED FROM THEIR SLEEVES TO AVOID CUTTING THROUGH THE COVER AND PUT INTO A SEPARATE SLEEVE, AND THEN PLACED INSIDE A PVC SLEEVE.
I WILL LEAVE FEEDBACK AS SOON AS I RECEIVE FEEDBACK - SO I KNOW THE ITEM WAS RECEIVED SAFELY AND THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH IT :-)
In the coming weeks and months I will be putting plenty of Queen, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Marillion items on the site so please keep a look out! Many thanks. Please look at my other items on now!
