VERY RARE ORIGINAL MONO 1967 UK FIRST PRESS LP - PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN - THE FIRST EVER ALBUM BY PINK FLOYD!
SX 6157 is the legendary and very rare first pressing in mono of the first-ever Pink Floyd album on the original Columbia two-colour label. Released on 5th August 1967, it is more valuable and much harder to find than the SCX stereo release.
This first ever Pink Floyd pressing is COMPLETE with the original laminated cover by Ernest J. Day and the original inner sleeve, both in superb condition. Very rare as it is a fully complete and original edition, now approaching 45 years of age!
The original inner sleeve is printed on both sides (see picture) with advertising for contemporary albums by the Beatles, the Hollies, Rolf Harris, Manfred Mann, Herman’s Hermits and more. In superb condition and slightly off white due to authentic age, this inner sleeve even on its own is a highly collectable piece of pop history from the sixties!
The cover is absolutely beautiful - the two small creases and very light ring markings do not detract from the impact of the rich, clean, clear colours of the psychedelic picture composition. The colour is fresh and vibrant and the laminate has not lifted. The spine is clean and unmarked with “The Pink Floyd” clearly visible. The flipback is clean with some slight discolouration due to age and light use. Collectible in its own right due to its excellent condition!
The vinyl is in good condition overall and has obviously been enjoyed and played often as there are scuffs and scratchings that mark and dull the surface on both sides.
The labels are in very good condition with some spindle marking. The beautiful original black labels carry the classic blue “Columbia” name and logo on both sides.
With NO reserve and a low starting price, this is a rare opportunity to enjoy ownership of one of the most sought after albums in music history.
This original, extremely rare and highly desirable first release of this historic and very highly sought after album carries the earliest possible mother stamper of “1” on both sides!
