Pulse 4LP Box Set (EMD 1078)

This highly collectable 25 track four 4LP box set is in wonderful condition and the audio on each vinyl plays to a superb standard.  I play test every record so as to provide a comprehensive grading.  The previous owner assured me the set had only been played once but then wasn't even sure if every vinyl had been played!  There is no spindle wear on any of the labels so I certainly have no reason to doubt him.

'Pulse' was released as a limited edition in 1995 and each LP is housed inside its own respective sleeve which in turn is contained within a thicker glossy picture sleeve.  It also includes a deluxe 52 page 12" square hardback book with many colour live photos.  The 'set' is contained within a lavish hardback slipcase box.

Visual grading

All four vinyls have a lovely glossy sheen with no hairlines or scratches and are visually stunning.  They have no spindle wear and it is obvious they have been hardly played.  Rarely have I seen this box set looking so clean and unplayed.  The run out grooves are super clean also and look untouched.

Play grading  

S1 plays with near perfect audio.  There is a little background static on the 'Shine On...' intro but the remainder has Mint quality audio.  This applies to the other tracks also.  S2 is stunning, the depth and power of the sound is breathtaking and there is no interference whatsoever.

S3 has minimal static on the lead in and one click but once 'Hey You' begins there is no 'background' and the track then plays with incredible clarity.  Thereafter the audio is of the highest calibre with a minor amount of static at the start of 'A Great Day For Freedom'.  'Sorrow' has Mint audio all the way through.  'High Hopes' on S4 again has a little static on the intro but this soon disappears and then plays as Mint as does the rest of the side.

'Speak To Me' on S5 has some of the ubiquitous light static on the intro but then plays superbly well.  The remainder of the side is so impressive and 'Time' is quite simply majestic!  With only a few seconds on static on the 'The Great Gig...' intro S6 plays as Mint the audio quality is that good.

S7 has stunning audio from beginning to end.  The depth and clarity on this side is astounding (as per the other sides really!) and there is no interference of any kind.  'Wish You Were Here' on S8 has light intermittent static on the intro and a couple of clicks but once the vocal begins it plays with fantastic sound quality and no other 'background'.  'Comfortably Numb' had two clicks about one minute in but aside from that it has Mint audio and 'Run Like Hell' ends this stunning box set with superlative audio and no interference.

The Box

The slipcase box is in excellent condition with only a little 'rubbing' on the edges and is certainly cleaner than so many you see.  The paper tracklisting attachment on the back of the box does have some creasing at the foot but apart from that is perfectly clean.  The barcode sticker can be seen on the back also.

Hardback Book & Inner Sleeves

The book and contents are superb condition and there is no shelf wear on the edges.  The inner sleeves containing the records are in perfect order with no splits and the outer sleeves are practically Mint apart from the 'Record Four' one which has a small amount of creasing on the opening edge.  So often on these rare box sets you find the records have worn through the spines but I am happy to say this isn't the case here.  

The labels

The famous Blue/Black Columbia labels have no marks or writing on them and are extremely clean.  They have a reasonable and not excessive amount of spindle wear.  It has the "KT" tax stamp on the S2 label.
