Description
A great record in great condition here: "The Piper At the Gates of Dawn" by Pink Floyd. Here's where it all began, not only for Pink Floyd but for psychedelic music as well. A 1st pressing of their 1st record, the only one dominated by madcap genius Syd Barrett, who wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 11 tracks.
This 1st pressing was released in October 1967 on the Capitol 6000 series in Canada. It has the great Beatles-era black label with a rainbow around it (second pressings in 1969 had an olive green target label).
Unlike the 1st pressing in the U.S., this Canadian pressing includes all of the music that was on the UK 1st pressing, including "Astronomy Domine" (amazing), "Flaming", and "Bike" (also amazing) which are missing from the U.S. version.
Great kaleidoscopic cover art of the group decked out in their Burberry finest. Photo looks yellow but the actual cover is white. Cover is pretty well flawless although there is extremely faint yellowing on the back and some microscopic marks. M-.
Vinyl is MINT. There are two micrscopic surface lines that do not affect play and are extremely difficult to see. I've had many brand new records in lesser condition. Looks unplayed. Labels are also mint.
"The Piper At the Gates of Dawn is full of colorful, childlike, distinctly British whimsy, albeit filtered through the perceptive lens of LSD. Barrett's catchy, melodic acid pop songs are balanced with longer, more experimental pieces showcasing the group's instrumental freak-outs, often using themes of space travel as metaphors for hallucinogenic experiences - "Astronomy Domine" is a poppier number in this vein, but tracks like "Interstellar Overdrive" are some of the earliest forays into what has been tagged space rock."
"But even though Barrett's lyrics and melodies are mostly playful and humorous, the band's music doesn't always bear out those sentiments - in addition to Rick Wright's eerie organ work, dissonance, chromaticism, weird noises, and vocal sound effects are all employed at various instances, giving the impression of chaos and confusion lurking beneath the bright surface."

A reasonable starting price for mint psych from 39 years ago. This pressing has sold in near mint condition for $250 and this one is BETTER than that one!
