PINK FLOYD SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS UK PRESS ONE BOX EMI

Another from my personal collection! This is very rare and sought after not only for the awesome condition but for the unbeleivable ,earlist  one boxed EMI labels and the earliest matrix and mother stampers! These are often seen with -2 matrix with two EMI logos which are a later pressing also with flimsy vinyls, but this also has the earliest mother stampers ''1'' both sides at 3 oclock to the matrix\master which was pressed from the 1st or earliest features -1 endings both sides!!!!!, which from my experiance produce the best audio quality!!!Important note! These original one boxed EMI labels were released in 1969 unbeievably rare to find with good audio (often found with horrible loud clicks or pops), only pressed on this label variation for a short period of time and were soon superceeded by the two boxed EMI label variation which is what makes this so collectable! Another very important note is that these originals were released with the Garrod & Lofthouse flipback covers! (later pressings were non flipback covers!)! Massivly collectable and sought after for any avid Pink Floyd collector!!

During its difficult recording sessions, Barrett became increasingly unstable and in January of 1968, David Gilmour was brought in. Barrett was finally removed from the band by early March, leaving this new incarnation of Pink Floyd to finish the album. As a result, A Saucerful of Secrets is the only non-compilation Pink Floyd album on which all five band members appear, with Gilmour appearing on four songs (Let There Be More Light, Corporal Clegg, A Saucerful of Secrets, and See-Saw) and Barrett on three (Remember a Day, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and Jugband Blues). As well as "Jugband Blues", the album was to include "Vegetable Man," another Syd Barrett song. However, the band believed "Vegetable Man," with its autobiographical lyrics, was unsuitable for inclusion and so it was left off the album. The song was to appear on a single as the b-side to another unreleased track, "Scream Thy Last Scream". Two additional Syd Barrett songs, "In The Beechwoods" and "No Title" were also recorded early in the sessions for the album!.

An image of the Living Tribunal from Marvel Comics can be seen in the cover's upper left corner. "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" is the only Pink Floyd song that features all five band members. Keyboardist Rick Wright sings lead or backing vocals on four of the album's seven songs, making this the only Pink Floyd album where Wright's vocal contributions outnumber those of the rest of the band!!.

The album was released that June as both mono (SX 6258) and stereo (SCX 6258) LPs in the UK, where it reached #9 on the charts!!.

The Vinyl

This is the original!, and more importantly the heavy and thicker type of vinyl!! ,,,which has deeper grooves and are more robust than later pressings!!!! Also the point to note! These original 1969 pressings produce the best audio quality in my opinion due to the fact that the vinyls are much thicker!!!!!

Initial inspection and also when looked at under a strong light I can barely see a blemish!!!! The playing surface looks awesome!! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be very light whyspy sleeve removal marks\scuffs only!!!!! This indeed has retained its original super glossy sheen from new!!!!

The Audio Quality

I have played this vinyl a few times at very high volume on a top system and the audio will be hard to surpass!!! This audio is cristal clear and vibrant and plays almost like new! (definately (no) signs of any grooveware or that this has been overplayed at all) !!! It is all too easy to be critical about these 69 pressings! any who know this album would know that there are many quiet places, It is so rare to find a pressing like this beleive me I have many copies and formats of this album! To start with there are (no) loud clicks , pops and certainly (no) jumps during the play of this vinyl!!! Points to note! This vinyl has been stored in a case for at least 25 years and I have noticed that on this and others that I have, that a build up of dirt and dust in the grooves that has accumilated over the years causes static ticks\crackle on these pressings (noticable by residue left on the playing surface after play) , and constant cleaning before each play I have noticed the audio gets cleaner! I would rate this audio at the top! on all frequencies! This plays awesome through out with very (very) minimal interfearance at all!!!! This audio will be hard to surpass!!!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl as usual! Pleas allow for the odd static tick\crackle here and there (mainly during some of the quieter parts) and certainly not consistant through out the audio! remember that this is a genuine vinyl of 37 years old! ,, and would have been played on a system that was 37 years old!

The labels

These feature the ONE BOXED EMI\COLUMBIA labels (only 2nd press) Amaizingly I can just barely see two or three spider marks if angled to the light in my opinion this has definately not been overplayed at all! In fact this looks and sounds like it has only ever been played a handful of times only!  (no) spindleware! ,The hole is perfectly round. The Gramoophone co ltd ids featiured around the rim (only early press!! ''MADE IN GT BRITAIN'' is featured (only early press) This is a UK pressing!!!!!

The Record Sleeve!

This is the original EMI\Harvest advertising serpier sleeve, correct for this issue\pressing In superbe condition without splits or tares, just light creasing and very feint stain spots with age only!

The cover

This is the original early GARROD & LOFTHOUSE LAMINATED FRONT AND ''REAR FLIP BACK COVER'' (Same as 1st issues with file under poplar at the rear)!!!  The laminate is super glossy and has very few\little creasings and marks to the front laminate, just three or four small creases in the laminate only  The rear is exceptionally clean strong and straight there are no splits or tares and the spine is superbe with very very light creases! Hardly any ring ware and storageware  to talk of !! Nice square corners!!! very rarely seen in this condition! The vinyl is stored seperate from the cover! This is how I have always stored my records!!!!! A SUPERB EXAMPLE FOR 38 YEARS OLD AND THE ORIGINAL 1ST PRESS COVER!!MUST BE AT LEAST EXCELLENT TO EXCELLENT PLUS!!
