WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND Odeon Records very first STEREO issue, second press, released, made and distributed in Chile in 1973 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile, an EMI company), licensed from The Gramophone Co. Ltd., catalog number 5064, with matrix numbers SHVL 804 A-3 19 in Side A and SHVL 804 B-3 16 in Side B. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND FROM CHILE!!!

“THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” was originally released in 1973 and the same year we got it here in Chile and we got 3 issues in 1973 with many different presses!!! And we got them with and UNIQUE NON-GATEFOLD COVER!!! Yes!!! In Chile the non-gatefold cover is mostly made of two single sheets of heavy paper (or thin cardboard) kept together by an outer plastic bag which’s part of the cover. If you know Chilean albums of the period you should know the kind of cover I’m talking about. However, this time we have got an extremely RARE flipback cover, made of 2 very thin pieces of cardboard with front cover pasted on the flips. Front cover is laminated and back cover non-laminated. All Chilean issues are really hard-to-find and this auction is for the ULTRARARE issue with a laminated flipback cover, not sure when this issue was released but the catalog number, 5064, proves is an original first edition of 1973 and the white/blue labels prove this is the second press, in accord to the site of Vernon Fitch.

Front cover keeps the original artwork but with dark brown color, no black, and the colors in the rainbow of the prism are only 4: yellow, light orange, orange and red. Back cover is totally different, it’s black with white letters, in the top right corner is the Odeon logo with the catalog number and in the top left corner is the tracklist in English translated to Spanish with credits for each song. Under the tracklist are the credits for the album and text in Spanish, and the lyrics of all songs in English. At the bottom it says: “Marca Registrada. Fabricado y Distribuido por Industrias Eléctricas y Musicales Odeon, S.A. Casilla 186-D – Santiago (Chile). Yes, yes, yes… Here it’s another REAL FIND, another rarity from South America, another UNIQUE press from Chile!!! A REAL FIRST ISSUE of “The Dark Side Of The Moon” released in Chile with flipback cover!!! But that’s not the only rarity, in back cover it says “ROGERS WATERS” and it has the lyrics for “Breathe reprise” as part of “Time”. And more!!! In labels the song “Breathe” is written “Breathe in the air” and the song “Brain damage” is misspelled “Brian damage”!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! How many copies like this exist? We don’t know, but we know this is REALLY ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND in playable conditions!!! And here you have the chance to get this MEGARARE PRESS of another rock classic album!!!

Remember, “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” released in Chile in 1973 has an UNIQUE COVER and the record I’m selling now it’s not the common issue, this is the MEGARARE first edition, second press!!! And keep in mind all the UNIQUE ERRORS in this press!!! WHAT A FIND!!! And the best thing is the nice condition of look and audio!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in VG or VG+ condition the front cover, clean and clear, complete, no missing parts, light creases, no writings, with light ring marks, tape in 3 edges and moderate wear in all edges, more evident in corners, and in VG- or VG condition the back cover, so clean and clear like front cover, but with a more evident ring marks, creases, some rips in the mouth edges and tape in all 4 edges. Some of the past owners taped the edges after the seam splits had already been caused, but it was a good solution to prevent more damage, because this kind of cover is very fragile. The record is in superb VG or VG+ condition, glossy and clean, but with loads of hairlines and scuffs and light scratches which prove this record saw many plays, but they almost don’t affect sound. Labels on both sides are in absolute NM- or NM condition, clean and clear, with not even spindle wear, but someone decided to write almost a book (!) in both labels, so my grading is only VG+ or EX- for labels. The sound is in great VG or VG+ condition the Side A, loud and clear, but with some soft background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), mostly evident in silent parts, with some light crackles here and there, more constant at the beginning of the album, which don’t distract from the great sound (I guess it only needs a good vacuum cleaning to get a better sound quality) this album keeps, and in VG or VG+ condition the Side B, loud and clear, with only minimal background noise and light occasional crackles here and there, more constant in “Us And Them”. Overall a so rare record like this, it has to be A MUST FOR Pink Floyd collectors and fans, not many times seen and this time you have the chance to own this MEGARARE PRESS!!! And after almost 40 years and many plays this copy still retains a nice look and a very decent and respectable sound quality which won’t disappoint anyone, LOUD, CLEAR, NO DISTORTIONS, NO CLICKS, NO SKIPS, NO STICKS, it plays great from the beginning to the end!!! But if you like Mint copies, this is not for you, that’s a fact. INCREDIBLE FIND FROM CHILE AGAIN!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
