Description
Pink Floyd – The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (Columbia, SX 6157), a very nice, early pressing of the classic debut album from 1967. With the band’s original erratic leader, Syd Barrett at the helm, ‘Piper’ is a masterpiece of English, psychedelic whimsy, featuring such classics as the thundering space-rocker ‘Astronomy Domine’, the gloriously trippy epic ‘Interstellar Overdrive’, and the frankly bizarre but brilliant ‘Bike’, ‘Piper’ is rightly regarded as one of the best albums of the era, and continues to influence musicians to this day.
This is the original - and very rare - mono version of the LP, with the black/blue Columbia labels, and the matrix numbers XAX 3419 -2 on Side 1, and XAX 3420 -1 on Side 2. The vinyl is in very good condition, featuring some minimal surface noise (as is to be expected of a record this old) and, unfortunately, a couple of small jumps near the beginning of ‘Interstellar Overdrive’ on side 2. However, the vinyl looks lovely, with just a couple of visible scratches on side 1, which don’t actually affect the sound quality at this point. The laminated, flip-back sleeve is also in good-very good condition, with some wear to the edges, and some creasing of the laminating. There are also a few minor marks to the back cover. I hope I’m not playing down the condition of this record too much, but I really want to be honest, as it’s not perfect by any means. But, in my opinion, it is a LOVELY copy of a quite wonderful album, and it’s with much, much regret that I’m actually selling it; it is an essential, and much sought-after, addition to every serious record collector’s collection. This is an excellent opportunity to get your hands on such a rare item.
