Description
This early 2/2 stereo press of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn has been superbly looked after. The sound quality is first class considering the age and under a bright light I can only detect the faintest of hairlines and it actually retains that glossy shine of new vinyl. Issued on the black Columbia label with silver text and white Columbia logo and two EMI logos. This issue doesn't have thee flipback cover.
There is barely any static at the beginning of Side One. The audio is stunning actually and plays with real clarity. I only heard one click during 'Astronomy Domine' and the rest played with hardly any other background interference at all. This is definitely one of the best 2/2 Piper's I've heard, a real gem.
'Interstellar Overdrive' begins again with no crackle, the audio comes through so strong and clear. There is just very slight intermittent light crackle here and there but in no obtrusive. There is a very small water mark on 'Chapter 24' but it does not affect the audio at all, plays with minimal crackle. 'The Scarecrow' and 'Bike' play practically as new with such clear audio.
In summary the audio here is astounding for such an early press. Yes there is the slightest of static here and there but you obviously expect that with a vinyl of this age. You would be hard pressed to find a better 2/2 pressing.
The Garrod and Lofthouse cover is in excellent condition with some mild wear. The actual laminate has held together very well and only has a few very light creases around the edges. It has worn through at the top ever so slightly and the corners have minor shelf wear. The reverse has a couple of small marks but is very clean overall. This is an excellent example of this iconic cover and and is one of the best I have seen. The thin pinched spine is in superb shape.
