“The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”

PINK FLOYD

Up for an auction is the rarest of all Pink Floyd collector’s items 1st Japanese pressing of the 1st Pink Floyd's album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, released on Odeon Records on the dark red EverClean vinyl and containing the A1 matrix numbers. This 1st Japanese pressing was released on December 5th in Japan, only several months after the official release on August 4th, 1967. What makes this item truly rarest is the original 1st print green Obi strip with the title of the album in Japanese and the 1st 4-digit catalog OP-8229 number (The 2nd 1970 Odeon Records issue contains a 5-digit OP-80281 catalog number) along with the Odeon Records logo and original price of 2000¥. (The 2nd issue included a “Rock Now” wide pink tour obi strip) The Japanese release of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn includes all the songs from the original British release of the album plus the extra song See Emily Play added to the end of Side Two. Original thin cardboard glossy cover with a kaleidoscope photo of the band and Odeon Records logo along the catalog number at the top right corner of the front cover. The flip-back British style back cover contains a song listing at the top in Japanese and English with timings and Japanese text in the middle, and “MADE IN JAPAN” text and Odeon Records logo at the bottom. The EverClean Records logo is located at the top right corner along with the 1st catalog 4-digit OP-8229 and Stereo banner. This incredible copy comes in a full factory set including:

The original green 1st print Obi strip

The original Ever Clean Records inner sleeve with a fold over top flap and images of other 70 EverClean Records releases

The original 1-sheet Japanese style white insert with the catalog OP-8229 number in the upper right corner, song titles and lyrics in English on one side.

The original White EMI order blank with the Odeon Records, Capitol Records and Angel Records logo.

This 1st Japanese pressing of The Piper At The Gates of Dawn was released in very limited amount on the dark red EverClean vinyl. It is generally accepted that only 500-600 copies were pressed on the dark red EverClean vinyl, a higher quality of vinyl that was developed and patented by Toshiba Musical Industries in 1957. The EverClean vinyl is much more static resistant and dust resistant than regular black vinyl. The matrix YAX-3419 1SA 3 / OP-8229-B 1S 4 numbers, include the information on the catalog number, lacquer number and record pressing plant. The matrix area also contains the Japanese Industrial Standard symbol in the form of a small circle with the connected letters JIS inside it. The original 1st print Odeon Records OP-8229 black labels with a silver print text, containing the “Mfd. Under Licence By Toshiba Musical Industries Ltd. in Japan” along the rim and a large Odeon Record logo on the left. The cover is glossy and very clean, containing only some very light creases along the corners and edges. The spine is perfect without any signs of scuffs or wear. The Obi strip doesn’t have any tears, only some very light creasing and small age discoloration spots. The inner sleeve, white lyric insert and EMI order blank are in Near Mint condition with the white insert having some light age discoloration spots. The vinyl is beautiful dark red with some very light hairlines and scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are clean, containing some very light spindle marks seen under a strong light source.

POLICY:

Realizing how important it is to secure the safety of the item you've paid your money for, I'll put my best effort into packing the records as best as possible, triple boxing them into the specialized professional boxes, with the two outer boxes having a special construction with extended cardboard on the edges to prevent the record covers' corners from getting damaged during the transit, and will also put the vinyl outside of the cover (of course, unless it's a sealed record) to prevent the splitting. I always try responding to the messages, but please, before sending me a message, make sure that the answer to your question isn't included in the description. I'll use my right to block a buyer, who doesn't correspond to my idea of politeness, culture and respect toward each other. If you want to participate in my auction, please be honest and positive, and I'll be mutual with you. I'll remove the bids of a buyer with zero rating, unless he contacts me prior to placing a bid. Unfortunately, I don't ship to Germany or Russia. I apologize to the buyers from these countries in advance.
