PINK FLOYD·THE WALL

The rarest and most unique of all of the Pink Floyd The Wall promotional copies. Unlike the standard The Wall labels, which the majority of the promotional copies have, the labels of this promotional copy has the true Columbia The Wall promotional labels with the "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE" print on all of the sides. This issue is so rare that it is practically impossible to find. This issue not only has the promotional labels with the "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE" print, but also have the rarely seen earliest 1A matrix numbers on all of the four sides. This is the earliest of all of the promotional pre-release copies in existence. This is NOT just one of the first early copies with the 1C/1D/1F/1G matrix numbers, but the VERY FIRST OF THE FIRST ONES. 1st print white brick wall gatefold cover has a huge clear sticker, saying "PINK FLOYD THE WALL 31183". Right below it, there is a white "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE," also known as the timing strip, promotional sticker. The back cover has a gold promotional stamp that says "FOR PROMOTION ONLY. Ownership Reserved By CBS. Sale is Unlawful." The gatefold interior of this promotional not for sale copy’s cover is different from the commercial release cover as the location and structure of the credits at the bottom right corner went through some major changes. The detailed information about these changes can be easily online. The collectible cover has been well taken care of and is in great clean Excellent condition. There is only some light occasional age discoloration. The gatefold cover is in Near Mint condition with all of the images still displaying the bright, vivid and saturated colors. Two original custom Columbia Records "The Wall" inner sleeves with the lyrics on both sides are in Excellent condition.

Unique first print Columbia Records PC2 36183 "The Wall" picture with the ©1979 Pink Floyd Music Publishers Ltd. "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE" print promotional labels. The vinyl of this promotional not for sale copy has the handwritten and distinctly seen matrix numbers, which I indicate in the chronological order:  PAL 36184-1A / PBL-36184-1AB / PAL-36185-1AA / PBL-36185-1AB. It is incredible that the 1A matrix number is indicated on all of the four sides. The trail-off vinyl of all of the sides contains a letter identifier “S,” which refers us to the pressing plant in Santa Maria, California where this promotional copy was prepared and which is located 150 miles away from Producer’s Workshop, one of the recording studios, located in Hollywood, where The Wall was recorded. I’m not sure whether Roger Waters owns a copy like this, but what I’m sure about is that you’ll become its owner. The conservative visual grading of the vinyl would be Very Good Plus as it has some light marks and scuffs from the inner sleeve with Side 3 having a slightly feelable mark that doesn’t affect the playback and Side 1 having a smaller mark on the last track. Side 2/3/4 sound Near Mint Minus with a crystal clear analog sound and Side 1 sounding Very Good Plus-Excellent with some occasional static on Track 1 and a series of light pops on the last track. Based on my experience it is most likely that these few problem mentioned above will go completely go away if the record will be cleaned with an VPI cleaning machine. Or perhaps, a simple manipulation with the weight of the tonearm will solve the problem. Please take into consideration that the promotional copies were actively used by radio station DJs, thanks to which Another Brick in the Wall topped the chart in the UK and the US, and finding an earliest promotional copy with the vinyl in Very Good Plus condition visually and Near Mint Minus condition (Side 2/3/4) audibly is a lot luck. The promotional copies were pressed many months before the official release date.
