Description

The Wall A-5U / B-3U / A-3U / B-3U (very early pressing)
On offer here is a absolutely stunning very early pressing of this classic album.  The clarity of the audio is stunning and is on a par with the best I have ever had the pleasure in listening to.  So rare for such an early pressing and has only been played once or twice judging by the lack of spindle wear and pristine condition of the vinyls.  The gatefold is also in superb condition.

Visual grading
Both vinyls are in pristine condition and I cannot detect any hairlines or scratches at all.  Only Side Four has one tiny spindle line that is barely visible so I am confident in saying the vinyls have only been played a couple of times, if that!  They have such a glossy sheen they look like new and that is no exaggeration.  As my play grading confirms they both play practically as new also.  This is without doubt a genuine final upgrade archive copy.
Play grading
There is no lead in static at all so you know you're in for a musical treat!  'In The Flesh' then plays with audio that can only be described as Mint.  'The Thin Ice' plays with the same quality with a handful of barely audible dust ticks and as I always say you will even find these on new vinyl.  For such an early first pressing the clarity is just stunning and rarely have I heard better.  There is no need to individually grade each track because the quality across the whole is just incredible.  This honestly sounds like it was pressed yesterday and to think it is not far off 40 years old!  Even the quiet sections play with Mint quality audio and on this side there are many of them.  Without wishing to single out any particular song 'Mother' plays with impeccable sound - no static, dust ticks just pure unadulterated audio playing like new.  I am confident in grading this side as Mint- and the minus is only there because the LP isn't sealed!  Absolutely stunning!
The birdsong on 'Goodbye Blue Sky' has no interference at all!  The rest of the track plays equally as well.  There is an almost imperceptible amount of static at the start of 'Empty Spaces' but it is so much in the background as to be negligible. The remaining tracks once again play with a quality that is second to none.  A handful of dust ticks during 'One Of My Turns' but not intrusive in any way.  The clarity and richness of the sound is just stunning and thus far I have heard no clicks or pops.  The long quiet intro to 'Don't Leave Me Now' plays with immaculate sound which is so rare when you consider how quiet it is.  The remainder of the side plays with sheer perfection.  'Goodbye Cruel World' ends the side with Mint audio and is without doubt the best version I have ever heard.
I'm running out of superlatives for this LP!  'Hey You' continues the quality with barely any interference, just a small number of barely audible dust ticks at the beginning. 'Is There Anybody Out There' and 'Nobody Home' quite simply play practically as new.  One light click on the latter but other than that total perfection.  The remainder of the side plays to the same high standard and 'Comfortably Numb' is on a par with the best I have heard.  A couple of very quiet clicks but again the clarity and depth is just astonishing.  The classic guitar solo has a little distortion perhaps but this is very common on the early pressings.
'The Show Must Go On' has one click at the end but aside from that has Mint audio again.  Side Four if possible plays better than the previous three sides!  Actually no that isn't possible!!  The quiet sections again play impeccably well, 'Stop' being a prime example of this.  The very quiet 'Outside The Wall' closes the LP with audio that is close to perfect, just a hint of light static towards the end.
In summary I don't think I have heard a better 'Wall' than this and I have heard many.  I sold an immaculate first press last month but in all honesty this one is marginally better.  This is a genuine final upgrade copy and for there to be only 2/3 light clicks across all four sides and no crackle, almost no static and only the lightest of non-intrusive dust ticks is incredibly rare.  The audio is immaculate and I think would be near impossible to improve upon.  I grade honestly as my feedback testifies and any Floyd fan/collector would be proud to have this in their collection.
Gatefold cover
This original G & L gatefold cover is in lovely condition and rarely have I seen better.  They are notoriously difficult to keep clean due to their 'whiteness' but this one has been maintained superbly well and only lightly handled.  The edges and wide spine are beautifully clean and only the two bottom corners have a tiny amount of pinching.  There is only minor discolouration in a handful of places but it is only very faint.  There are no obvious marks, just a hint of ringwear on the front.  There is the lightest of handling wear on the opening edges but in all honesty this is without doubt one of the cleanest gatefolds I have seen in many a year.  The inside is also in pristine condition.
As per the early pressings the gatefold is cream coloured and the bricks are not aligned correctly at the bottom of the cover.  The band members are not listed on the inside and there is no bar code on the back cover.
Lyric inners
The cardboard lyric inners (with rounded corners as per the early pressings) are in lovely condition with no splits which is very rare.  There is a small amount of print marking and one tiny 'nick' on the corner of the second inner and a little ringwear near the top edge on both but overall they are in great condition.
Labels
They are both in perfect condition and as stated there is almost no spindle wear.
