In the dead wax of a UK pressing of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, "GOR" is an EMI factory code used to track which specific metal stamper was used to press that exact piece of vinyl. The Pink Floyd Archives +1Breaking Down the CodeEMI (the parent company of Harvest Records) used a letter-to-number substitution cipher based on the 10-letter phrase G R A M O P H L T D (for Gramophone Ltd) to keep track of their stamper plates: The Pink Floyd Archives +3G = 1

- P = 6
- H = 7
- L = 8
- T = 9
- D = 0
What "GOR" Tells You"GOR" decodes to 1 5 2. The number immediately following the letter code (e.g., GOR 3) indicates the "mother" plate being used, while the code itself indicates the "stamper".
Because each metal stamper was typically discarded and replaced after pressing 300 to 500 records, these etchings are incredibly useful for collectors who want to determine how close their record is to the very first disc pressed off the production line.
