Pink Floyd : The Final Cut A-5U / B-4U Early Press EMI 1983 (Un-played)

This early pressing plays to an incredible standard with no interference.  The clarity and depth of the audio is 'as new' and that is no surprise because the previous owner assured me it had never been played.  Having played the album in full I have no reason to doubt him!  This underrated album has so many quiet passages and yet the clarity is astonishing, it is easily a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing.  I have only ever sold one other copy as pristine as this, recently in fact, and you would not be disappointed if you had just purchased this record brand new.  Ok it may not be a very first pressing but it is still a very early one, not a reissue, and it would be nigh on impossible to find a cleaner one.  The vinyl is visually stunning and needless to say there is no spindle wear.

The cover is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear and has clearly not been handled very much.  The original poly-lined black inner has only a little wear.  A stunning 'package' overall.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Looking under a bright light l can only make out a couple of ultra faint hairlines and it took me a while to find those!  It really is in beautiful condition.  The labels are 'as new' with no marking and no spindle wear.

Play grading

'The Post War Dream' certainly gives every indication of a vinyl that has never been played before.  The intro is of course so quiet and yet the clarity is absolutely stunning.  The car - the radiophonic section is 'as new' and Waters' opening vocal is equal to that.  An incredible start!  The one and only chorus plays with wonderful clarity and depth and the closing section is flawless.  A Mint version for sure.

The intro on 'Your Possible Pasts' has not so much as a dust tick and the opening vocal has no background either.  The chorus then plays with great power and depth and the next quiet verse again has no intrusion.  It continues in the same exact way and Gilmour's solo is stunning.  I've said it before, this is an underrated album in my opinion.  The remainder has no interference and Mint is again deserved.

The ticking clock segue into 'One Of The Few' plays beautifully - seriously you would not believe the clarity here!  The intro is 'as new' and the vocal section is of the same high end standard.  This is Mint with a capital M!

'The Hero's Return' plays with unrivalled quality from start to finish with no background.  The clarity is such that I heard things I have never heard before - you pick up every subtle nuance in the music, every note so crisp and clear.  Mint

The 'crash' into the classic 'The Gunners Dream' is incredible, never heard it 'play' better, and the piano intro then plays beautifully with literally no intrusion.  The opening vocal section has the same clarity of sound and as the volume increases there is no distortion and the sax solo is faultless.  The next verse plays to perfection and you have to remember so many sections here are deathly quiet!  And yet the clarity is STUNNING!  Wait - there is a very light static on the quiet end vocal but yep it is so so quiet.  I'm going to say Mint- but even that seems a little harsh.

The footsteps into 'Paranoid Eyes' have no background and you can easily hear the cat miaow on the intro, it's not often you can say that!  It then plays with outstanding through every section and of course there is no interference.  This is audio of the highest quality, there is not one single negative.  Mint and what a side of music, it sounds as if it was pressed yesterday not over 40 years ago!

'Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert' is 'as new' from start to finish and 'The Fletcher Memorial Home' is equally as good.  The opening vocal has no background and it proceeds to play with a clarity and warmth that is second to none.  The vocals are crystal clear and the mid solo is flawless.  A great track grading as Mint

'Southampton Dock' plays with stunning precision and again has no intrusion.  I have no desire in repeating myself but with audio like this what can I do!  Mint

The gentle piano refrain on the 'The Final Cut' intro is so clean, you could hear a pin drop.  The dog barking you can easily hear also and as the volume picks up the audio is perfect.  The more powerful sections play with incredible definition, there is no distortion, and the quieter passages play 'as new' with that CD like aesthetic quality.  I grade with honesty and integrity as my feedback confirms and this is another track grading as Mint and that includes the quiet end section.

You will not be surprised to hear that 'Not Now John' plays with superb power and definition and with no sign of any interference.  As good as new basically and Mint is again deserved.  No distortion whatsoever not even on the high octane end section and yes I played it very loud!

The intro on 'Two Suns In The Sunset' has 3/4 barely audible statics (shock!) and then the acoustic section plays perfectly as does the opening vocal.  From then on it plays as per the rest of the album with a clarity and warmth that could not be any stronger.  It's a stunning finish to the album and the sax solo at the end is a prime example of the sonic quality on offer.  A Mint- version and I am now totally convinced this album was never played prior to my play testing!

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in great condition with only minimal wear.  The top edges have one minor indent and a very small scuff near the top left corner.  The bottom edges have a little rubbing next to the right hand corners and the wide spine is superb with just one minor 'spot'.  The corners are very clean with barely any wear (other then the rubbing bottom right) and the opening edge is near perfect with only a couple of tiny indents.  The front cover is very clean also with 3/4 small white 'spots' near the top edge and a couple near the bottom.  The back cover is pristine and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate with no marking.  A fine example overall.

The original die-cut black inner has no side splits or tears, just some light creasing and faint marking.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
