Description
A great opportunity to buy a RARE VINYL LP from the 1960's by The Pink Floyd called "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn".
This is a U.K. pressing released in 1967 on the Columbia label (SX 6157)(mono) and has 11 tracks (see photos for track listings).
The matrix numbers in the dead wax are:- XAX 3419-2 (side one) and XAX 3420-1 (side two).
The mother stamper codes next to the labels at 3 o'clock are GA (side one) and GH (side two).
Whilst this appears to be one of the earliest pressings, the back cover has "File under Popular" printed on the flipback (see photo), which makes it a second pressing issue.
The vinyl is in a clean and shiny VERY GOOD condition. I always examine and grade records under a bright table lamp and there are many light surface and scuff marks evident, along with faint spindle marks on the label. I have played the whole of both sides and they play fine and sound great, with just the odd light click noticeable in places. Overall the sound quality is far better than I was expecting and it is a great example of late 60's mono recordings, having that wonderful depth which is sadly missing in later stereo pressings.
The labels are clean and free from any writing or major defects, but when tilted towards the light, there appears to have been a sticker in place at some stage on side one.
The record is flat and has no warps of any description.
The record is housed within an EMI LP-advertising inner sleeve in a VERY GOOD condition considering its age.
The front laminated flipback picture cover is in an EXCELLENT condition.The edges and spine are very strong, and the writing on the spine is clearly readable (see photo). There is just some faint ring-wear and very minor creasing on parts of the laminate noticeable when tilting to the light. The back cover is unmarked and has remained well preserved over the years.
This is a highly collectable Psych / Progressive Rock LP and should be of interest to avid collectors.
