Pink Floyd : Wish You Were Here A1 / B3 + Postcard
This first pressing plays to a very impressive standard with only a little static which is mainly towards the end of S2. There is a minimal amount on the 'Wish You Were Here' intro but when isn't there?! S1 in particular plays with stunning quality and much of S2 still plays with great clarity and depth.
The iconic cover is very strong and definitely one of the 'cleanest' you will find. It has some light 'spotting' on one side of the front and back cover but it really is very faint. It includes the original postcard which is practically 'as new' and the lyric inner is in superb shape with barely any wear.

Play grading
The slow build up on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' plays beautifully with barely any 'background'. The clarity is stunning and during the two minutes of Wright's classic intro there is just one light tick and one momentary and very minor static sound. There are no clicks or pops and this is one of the finest intros I have heard in a long time. As Gilmour joins in the playback is almost 'as new' with only a handful of barely audible dust ticks. There is no underlying static and this section continues to impress with wonderfully clear audio. As this sections winds down into almost silence there is only a minimal amount of very light static (very minimal!) and once the percussion 'kicks in' the audio cannot be faulted. Gilmour's next solo then sounds as good as it did back in '75 and the final section of this opening instrumental has only very light background static plus one light tick and you can hear each note perfectly. I mention this static only to be 'complete' in my grading, it is so minor and does not intrude on the quality of the listen in my opinion. The first verse is again so 'clean' and you can hear only the faintest of static if you put your head up against the speakers! The playback is so strong and the second verse is equally as good. The saxophone solo then 'rounds' off this classic in fine style with no interference and the fade out is nigh on perfect also. This truly is a 'high end' version that has no intrusive 'background' of any kind and I think a Near Mint- grading is about right.
The segue into 'Welcome To The Machine' is very 'clean' although the intro then does have a little more static which does not last long anyway. This static is 'subjective' you could say as people often have a different interpretation of it. In my educated opinion it is a little louder for a few seconds but that is only because what has gone before is oh so quiet! Even prior to the first verse the clarity is stunning and then the vocal also plays with great quality with no intrusion. The following instrumental section plays with perfect clarity and the second and final verse is of a standard that defies its 45 years of age! The remainder is nigh on perfect and once more there are no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either. The closing section which includes the 'party crowd' is as 'clean' as I have ever heard, there is no 'background' and right at the end you can clearly hear the intended very quiet double pop sound and 'cough'. This shows you just how impressive the clarity is. Again I this deserves a Near Mint- grade with an Ex+ intro perhaps.

'Have A Cigar' on S2 plays with fantastic quality from the opening note and this quality does not diminish in any way the more it progresses. Through every section the playback is outstanding and there is just no interference. This is Mint- every day of the week!
The radiophonic intro on 'Wish You Were Here' is so often beset with static/crackle and yet this is up there with the best! The clarity is so impressive and there is no obvious static at all. There is a little static as the acoustic guitar begins and 3/4 light static ticks but it then plays very clearly and once the first verse is underway the audio is STUNNING! It continues in the same precise way and the final verse again plays with great clarity and definition. The final instrumental section is very impressive with only a minimal amount of very light background static. The acoustic intro is Ex- but the remainder is Near Mint- I would say.
The 'wind' section introducing Part Two of 'Shine On...' admittedly does have a little more static which is a little surprising but then this is vinyl! As the music begins there is only minimal static and as the volume increases the playback is superb once again! This long Gilmour 'solo' is sublime and could not play with any greater clarity or power. The solitary verse plays very clearly with hardly any 'background' and the final instrumental piece then plays exceptionally well with no obvious intrusion on the audio. The odd light static sound but certainly nothing that stands out. As it moves into the final 'movement' where the audio is a lot quieter the playback is superb and to the end it plays extremely well with only the odd light static sound and again this is not intrusive. Just a little more static right at the end where the audio is a lot quieter. The vast majority of this track is Ex+ and better than that in many areas but VG+ on the intro and end section.
In summary this genuine first press plays to an excellent standard for the vast majority and as you can see from my grading it is Near Mint if not better in many sections. S1 especially is stunning and whilst S2 has a little static in 2/3 areas in no way does it overpower the music and there are no clicks or pops. It's getting hard to find an A1/B3 with nm/m audio these days and whilst this one isn't perfect it is still pretty damn good! The audio is very impressive overall.
Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very healthy and strong glossy sheen. There are no marks or scratches although on close inspection you can detect a few very faint sleeve removal hairlines on each side. There is only one faint spindle trace on S1 and only a little more on S2. A very clean vinyl overall as are the run out grooves.
The Cover & Postcard
The cover has only minimal shelf wear and remains in excellent condition. Unlike so many it is still very strong and robust which can only be because it has always been handled very carefully, no creasing etc. The edges and thin pinched spine are in superb shape with no rubbing and only the right hand corners have very minor wear/creasing. The opening edge has hardly any handling wear and just the one mega small indent/crease on either side. The front cover is cleaner than so many you see but there is some 'spotting' down the right hand side which can also be seen on the left side of the back cover. This may not even show up on the photos because it is very faint. Apart from that the cover is very 'clean' with no other marking. This is certainly one of more impressive first press covers that you will find today.
The original postcard, with the serrated edges, is in superb condition with no creasing or marking.
The Lyric Inner
The original inner with the three cut corners is in great order with no side splits and hardly any marking. There are just five small 'spots' at the foot of the red veil side and a small number of faint creases around the edges. The lyric side is very clean with only one mega tiny 'nick' on the left edge, barely noticeable. This inner has no spotting at all.
The Labels
They are super clean with no marking or writing and only a minimal amount of spindle wear on the S2 label.
