Description
Wish You Were Here A-1/B-3 + Shrinkwrap & Postcard
Only played once or twice this very first pressing has stunning audio and the majority of the cover is still contained within the original black shrinkwrap on which the 'Wish You Were Here' sticker is still attached. It also contains the original postcard.
The mother stamper on S2 is "G1" which is the holy grail of stampers on any album. A record with a "G" stamper indicates that the vinyl was made from the first stamper i.e. one of the very first off the production line. Generally 300-500 records were pressed with each stamper so you can see just how early this one is. In other words this LP is a mega rarity and so rarely found in this wonderful condition also.
SHVL 814 // A - 1 / B - 3 // OM 2 & G 1

Visual grading
Judging by the lack of spindle wear this vinyl has only been played once, perhaps twice at most. This is borne out by the quality of the audio as described below. I can only detect two of the faintest of wispy spindle lines on the S1 label and nothing on S2 whatsoever. Visually it is absolutely stunning also. There are only a handful of small faint hairlines. No long hairlines or radial lines or scratches at all and unsurprisingly it still has a lovely sheen. This may be the best A1/B3 vinyl I have ever seen.
Play grading
The long intro into 'Shine On...' plays with wonderful quality. A little static in the background but it is just that, in the background and only sporadic for that matter. It does not interfere with the listening pleasure one iota. The more I listen to it the more I am impressed by the stunning clarity and richness of the sound. The first guitar solo plays with such precision and depth you would be forgiven for thinking this was a new high quality reissue and thereafter the quality does not diminish. A little static here and there again but it may be more accurate to call them dust ticks which you will often find even on newly pressed vinyl. This is audio you can really immerse yourself such is the high end quality and there are no clicks, pops or jumps whatsoever. 'Welcome To The Machine' has the same quality and again the quieter sections play with only the lightest of 'background'. I am confident in grading this side as Near Mint- and the minus is only used because of the minimal amount of static/dust ticks that can be heard but I re-iterate it does not intrude on what is a stunning listen.
'Have a Cigar' plays with impeccable clarity and depth once again and to my ears this can be graded as Mint- without a shadow of a doubt. The lead in to 'Wish You Were Here' does have some light static but this is one of the quietest sections of the LP so you expect a little 'background' from a 42 year old record! The remainder of the track plays with fantastic clarity and is of the highest quality with just a handful of dust ticks. I may be becoming repetitive but the clarity is just incredible, so rare to find on an A1/B3 pressing and this is the side with the G1 stamper! You just don't get this warmth and richness of sound on the recent reissues. 'Shine On... (Part Two)' again has a little static on the quiet intro but this soon dissipates and then displays audio of the highest order AGAIN! The guitar solo in the middle section is just mind-blowing, I'm not sure I've ever heard better. The power does not lessen and the rest of this epic track continues in the same fashion with only light static here and there. Shock horror (!) there is one pop literally at the end but for there to be only pop in total across both sides is a remarkable statistic on such a rare and collectible pressing.
In summary I am sure many sellers would grade this vinyl as Near Mint but I am 100% honest as my feedback testifies. There are a some sections that grade as Ex+ in my opinion but even then the 'background' is non-intrusive and just adds to the atmosphere one could say. This quality is so rarely found on an A1/B3 pressing today let alone one with a "G1" stamper and seeing as this is one of the earliest off the A1/B3 production line makes this a highly collectible record.
Cover
The iconic cover remains largely covered by the original shrinkwrap which has the 'Wish You Were Here' sticker on the back. The edges and spine appear to be in perfect condition although there is a little rubbing on the two corners of the opening edge. There is also a little creasing on the front cover near the bottom opening edge. Obviously I won't remove the shrinkwrap but from what I can see the remainder of the cover is extremely clean with no marks or further creasing. The opening edge has only very minor handling wear and on the inside there is stamp from the music store that originally sold it I imagine. The handshake sticker is still firmly attached and has no marks, rips or tears.Lyric inner
This has the three cropped corners and thumb notch on the top edge as per the first/early pressings and is in near perfect condition. The sides have no splits and only a couple of minor creases on the edges. A wonderful example with no markings at all.
The labels
They are both in immaculate condition with no markings and almost no spindle wear as already stated. They look as new.
Postcard
The postcard with serrated edges is in perfect condition with no creases or marks. SHVL 814 // A - 1 / B - 3 // OM 2 & G 1
