Pink Floyd
"the DARK SIDE of the MOON"
QUAD 8 TRACK
BUT NOT JUST ANY QUAD 8 TRACK......AND NOT JUST ANOTHER CRAPPY USA ISSUE OF THE "CRAPITOL" MATRIX SQ MIX.............................THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY BRITISH ISSUE OF "DSOTM" ON QUAD 8 TRACK, THE ONLY TRUELY DISCRETE QUADRAPHONIC ANALOG RELEASE OF THIS ALBUM, IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THIS ALBUM WAS ORIGINALLY MEANT TO BE HEARD!!!
Q: WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? WHO GIVES A CRAP?
A: THE USA VERSION IS LIKE A PUNY TRICYCLE........THE UK VERSION IS A THOROUGHBRED RACEHORCE THAT WILL RAISE THE CACKLES ON YOUR NECK!!! ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING!!!
WORD HAS IT THAT THE ALBUM'S PRODUCER, ALAN PARSONS, HAS SOUGHT OUT IN VAIN AND WITHOUT LUCK A COPY OF THIS TAPE FOR HIS OWN COLLECTION
AND OF COURSE, IT IS PLAY TESTED!!! NEW PRESSURE PAD AND SENSING FOIL!!!
VG CONDITION (note tobacco stains on label)
*** PLEASE NOTE: A PREVIOUS OWNER RECORDED SILENCE OVER A ONE SECOND STRETCH OF THE GUITAR SOLO IN "TIME" ON SIDE ONE....ONE SECOND, NO MORE, NO LESS........THIS IS THE ONE FLAW THAT ANY BUYER OF THIS TAPE SHOULD BE AWARE OF, FIRST AND FOREMOST ***
SUPERB FIDELITY
NO SLEEVE, SORRY
Note: Some sleuths may recognize the photo from the Yahoo 8 track heaven group.......Yes! I swiped that photo! But, first, I contributed it. So, there's no funny business afoot. What you see is what you will get. Including this auction, only 4 copies of this tape have been sold on Ebay in the last 6 years (whereas at least 500 copies of the regular USA quad version have changed hands in that same period of time, by my guestimate)........a sleeveless UK copy sold on Christmas Day, 2000 ($175.00; the seller had no idea what he had on his hands, and the description therefore contained no description of this particular issue's unique merits).......in February of this year, I paid $675.00 for a VG+++ copy with sleeve and every last second intact........a mint sleeved version sold around three or four years ago for $750.00+ (it was purchased by the very same collector who was lucky enough to scoop up the $175.00 copy)................
Some pertinent remarks by Alan Parsons, the DSOTM producer: "'Dark Side' was recorded at a time when quadraphonic systems [systems using four channels to record and reproduce sound] seemed to be on the horizon. For example, a lot of the effects on the album were designed with quad reproduction in mind- most notably, the introduction to "Money". The idea was that each part of the cash register would emanate from a different speaker. As a result, lots of time was spent recording each segment of the sound effect on discrete channels. Obviously, no one knew that quad systems would eventually fizzle, but I would say that thinking in quadraphonic terms probably made us more careful about how we recorded the effects."
