Description
This is an auction for a very rare LP by Pink Floyd, The Dark Side Of The Moon.
This was released by Harvest Records in 1973 and has catalogue number SHVL 804. This is the much sought after 1st pressing with a solid light blue triangle, black inner, 2 posters, no stickers, gatefold sleeve that opens on one side.
The matrix numbers for this are, Side 1- SHVL 8C4 A 2. Side 2- SHVL 8C4 B 2.
Condition: The gatefold sleeve has some dust/dirt marks. After picturing the sleeve I gave it a bit of a wipe and found some of the marks pictured will clean off. There is also some buffing to the corners and to a couple of places around the edges (spine fine). No tears, bends or creases, spine & centre ex, complete and graded at VG+.
This also comes with a black inner sleeve which other than a little creasing is Mint, no edge splits, tears etc.
This also comes with 2 posters which other than a couple of finger marks to the white reverse sides are Mint. No pin holes, tears, edges splits or tape.
No stickers included, this came with two stickers originally.
Labels. Side 1- This sides label is clean, under closer examination some spider spindle trails and two finger marks can be seen. There is a touch of wear to the top and bottom part of the centre hole.
Side 2 - This is also clean with a couple of finger marks and some spindle trails being seen under closer examination. The label is mispressed off centre, which has caused some light centre hole wear at 5 & 10 o'clock. Please check the pictures for clarification on supersize below.
The Vinyl: Appearance - Both sides have numerous feather scratches, mostly seen when tilted to the light. There are also a few finger marks and dust marks that will probably clean.
I have test played this record through both sides and report the following:
Side 1 - This side starts with feckling/surface noise which is quite loud, there are a few loud pops. This has a very quiet beginning in terms of the music itself thus making the feckling very apparent. By the time the singing starts on this side this has faded to a quiet continuous feckle, which fades in and out as this side plays. The music itself plays strong with no distortion or fading and only at its very quietest times can the feckling infact be heard over the music itself.
Side 2 - This side is certainly clearer than side one. It starts with only a few very quiet crackles heard through track 1. Some way in to track 2 some feckling can be heard for a small part of this track, which at one point gives an audible tick. This lasts for a few rotations to fade out completely. This then goes on to play fine with a few quiet crackles heard, again these are most apparent at the records quietest moments.
As this stands this is graded between Good & Very Good. Depite playing through fine this displays some deterioration in sound quality, with feckling heard in places. Given a good clean this may lift some of the feckling but will certainly not make it clear.
Sounds like I have slaughtered the vinyl but it probably plays a little better than graded. I certainly enjoyed listening to it, meaning the feckling did not ruin this classic piece of vinyl.
A nice collectable and certainly at worst a worthy gap filler.
