This is an auction for a rare LP by, Pink Floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon.

This was released by Harvest records in 1973 and has catalogue number SHVL804. This is the 1st pressing with a solid blue triangle.  Please check the pics for clarification. This does not come with its original black inner, 2 posters & 2 postcards. The gatefold sleeve is the original and only opens on one side.

Condition: The gatefold sleeve has buffing to the corners and mouth edge, a sticker can be seen on the front, this will probably peel leaving no mark? some small creases and the impression of the record can also be seen showing through on the rear, which has caused a fading ring.

This comes with its original patent inner sleeve which is in fine condition.

When I first aquired this I did not get to excited as it appears quite messy with numerous scratches and spindle trails. I finally got around to test playing this and I was pleasently surprised to find that the audio is actually pretty good, yes there are audible surface noises, but other than one pop heard in the 'heartbeat' intro on side one the music is not distorted, with the music itself playing srong and clear and well above any feckling heard. Anyway as usual I took notes when playing this, as you will see these are quite comprehensive, I suppose I could of just said plays with occasional auible surface noise but that does not actually tell you anything.

Side 1, Light feckling and one loud pop can be heard on the intro heartbeat, this clears as soon as the music starts, nice audio, strong with no distortion, fading or dragging and certainly not appearing to have suffered any reduction due to wear despite being quite well played. The very occasional very quiet crackle can be heard until we reach the end of track one. There was one quiet pop midway through track 1, as track one reaches the very end the light feckling heard in the very beginning returns and runs into the quiet beginning of track 2, this again soon fades out and is replaced, as above, by the very occasional quiet crackle.

 At the very end of track two, when the 'Boom' sound that diminishes slowly and just before the clocks sound arrive, some crackles and a consistant tick can be heard, perhaps 4 or 5 rotations this fades out. The tick is certainly not a thud but obviously sounds reasonably loud due to this being an almost silent part of the record. Once track 3 kicks in (the longest track on this side) no feckling can be heard, midway through this track a quiet pop was heard. The audio is really surprisingly strong and clear with the music itself not appearing effected in any way by its scratches or frequent use. A few quiet crackles return in the quiet crossover to the last track, again soon clearing with the womans vocal sounding fine. Someway through this track, as she fades, a tick can then be heard, I counted six, this is quite loud for the first two then diminishes into a noise and disapears completely, the rest of the track plays out fine with the occasional quiet crackle.

Side 2, Light feckling can be heard in the background of the cash register beginning. Again I am quite taken aback by the strong audio which plays above any feckling that may be occuring, once we reach the quieter saxophone part of this track a few quiet crackles can be heard, soon clearing to play clear again until the vocal finish of this track when some quiet crackles can once more be heard.

 As track 1 goes into track 2 a loud tick can be heard, this continues for perhaps 7 rotations and diminishes in volume and is replaced with lots of quiet crackles and pops, this all happens over perhaps a 20 second period of this track, as the vocal grows this fades out completely, to once more play with the very occasional quiet crackle. One quite loud audible pop is then heard just before the talking on this track (this does not distort the music in anyway), probably 3/4 of the way through this track, then when the vocal returns a quiet tick can be heard for 4 or 5 rotations, this soon clears.

A few quiet crackles are then heard in the crossover to track 3, this track played fine with a few crackles just heard midway through and again at the quiet crossover to track 4, in this crossover a quiet tick can just be heard, this soon fades out leaving the rest of this track to play fine, with the occasional very quiet crackle. Lastly the very quiet heartbeat finish has quiet feckling.

You will of noticed that the surface noises heard through both sides of this record are most prominent at the records quietest moments, indicating that despite being quite well played the audio is strong and loud and does not suffer any major deteroation in actual sound quality. Infact I would go as far say to that there is very little lessening in sound quality to the music itself and does not suffer any distortion due to wear or surface noise, other than in the heartbeat intro at the very beginning (one loud pop on note of music). So as this stands certainly sounding better than it actually appears, fine to sit and listen to, probably not for the purist but a worthy gap filler with nice audio.

Graded at a strict VG / G   Down-graded for the scratches and because it is quite well played, audio certainly better than graded.
