Description
This is a unique opportunity to own some of the World’s rarest and greatest Psychedelic records as I’m selling my treasured PINK?
FLOYD?collection! This copy of their first LP is the hard to find MONO recording. The Matrix numbers show it to be amongst the first
pressings: XAX 3419-2/XAX 3420-2, although the sleeve does have the “File under Popular” live top right, which denotes it’s from the
second batch of printed sleeves. Catalogue number is MONO SX6517, with the Blue/Black Columbia labels and the original EMI inner bag.
Condition overall is VG+, but with three very slight audible marks: one at the beginning of side 1 that sounds over the quiet intro, and
two on side 2, that only last for seconds. Overall though the sound is loud and crisp. Sleeve is in good condition, with only the leading
edge slightly worn. There are no marks or writing on the outside.

Recorded at Abbey Road at the same time The Beatles were making ‘Sgt. Pepper’, THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN is a trippy psychedelic improvisation with snappy pop themes, a blurring of musical borders that went far beyond what any other band were attempting. Instrumental acid-jams like "Pow R. Toc H". and "Interstellar Overdrive" smashed the conventionality of the pop mainstream by opening up traditional song structures, as bits of Rick Wright's reverb-soaked Farfisa organ and Barrett's scratchy guitar float in and out of the mix. The other
side of Barrett's musical expression was an ability to write shorter "pop" songs that were similar to traditional fare only in length and included child-like tales such as “The Scarecrow” and “The Gnome"
