Description
PIRANA debut HARVEST LP RARE Aussie HEAVY PROG PSYCH / latin-influenced rock similar to Santana
Pirana – Pirana LP (orig. Australia Harvest STEREO SHVL 603, gatefold cover)
Release date: February 1971. Recording date(s): Late January 1971 (estimated).
On offer here is an EXTREMELY RARE original issue of the debut album by Sydney band, PIRANA. This is an absolute classic heavy progressive rock LP, and undeniably one of the best from downunder. Musically, we’re talking latin-influenced rock with a strong emphasis on organ-guitar interplay and heavy percussion. Every song is a sure-fire winner with my personal favourites being the extended work-outs, “Elation” and “Stand Back”. One of their most commercial tracks, “Find Yourself a New Girl”, is also included. Be sure to check out the black & white GTK clips below!
Stan White had previously been a member of New Zealand band, THE CHAPTA. The remaining line-up had previously been in Sydney band THE NOMADS, with the addition of Gus McNeil (executive producer) on lead vocals.

inside gatefold: EX matt finish: insignificant spotting, spot peeling which has been blacked out (top-right corner along seam), completely insignificant creasing (along spine), corner crease (bottom-right only).
Record:
visual: beautiful glossy sheen—insignificant hairlines & few light surface scuffs which are slightly more evident on side 2 (side 1: EX / side 2: VG++) (seen under strong light).
audible: sounds superb overall despite some minimal underlying surface noise on tracks 1 & 2 and during the quieter moments (tracks 1&2: VG++ / tracks 3-7: EX). A HIGHLY ENJOYABLE LISTENING EXPERIENCE!
