12" LP PMCM 1202 1st Mono Press From 1963 in New Zealand
Masters XEX 421 / XEX 422
This is the The Beatles first official LP release on the first and original Black & Silver Parlophone label before any changes were made.
The pressing run started in 1963 on the old Parlophone Black & Silver labels, and look very similar to the first Parlophone Black & Gold labels that were used in the UK.
Only Mono versions were ever issued on these Black & Silver labels in New Zealand, as demand for stereo was extremely low. Within months a new plain purple label was being used and by 1964 Stereo versions were introduced aswell.
The record label was a subsidiary of EMI Music called His Master's Voice and was set up in the 1930s in New Zealand. It is for this reason that the design and manufacturing of the vinyl has the same exacting standards as those issued in the UK.
Comes in the original sleeve which housed the Black & Silver labels, this is indicated by the two flipbacks on the reverse with no print on the top flipback, the Cover Photo: Angus McBean text on the reverse, the Lithoed In New Zealand text on the bottom flipback, the New Zealand and Australia copyright notice and the His Master's Voice (N.Z.) Ltd print on the reverse.

Condition
The Sleeve: Good Condition. The flipbacks are completely intact, which is quite hard to find. All original text is clear and readable, the title text on the spine is complete, the sleeve looks generally clean and has clear black text written by Tony Barrow exactly as it appears on the UK issued sleeve.
There are a few deep small creases emanating from the spine. There are some scuff spots on the reverse. There are no rips from the opening edge, and the top and bottom edges have no rips, as you would often find with these sleeves. There is a one inch tape repair on the bottom right corner. There is no sticker or sticker residue. The iconic front pictorial retains its original shiny lamination intact all over. There is no creasing on the front pictorial.
A neat sleeve which is still houses the LP a well and has the twin foldover flipbacks intact.
1st Edition Black & Silver Sleeve.
Amazingly this sleeve still has the price tag of 39/6 which came on all the very first sleeves neatly inserted in the inside of the opening! Very rare to find this.
Inner Sleeve: In a Good condition. This is the original EMI subsidiary's record advertising catalogue inner which came with these 1st presses. Has had a couple of small edge splits which have been repaired with clear tape. Otherwise is fully functional with no staining or handwriting writing.
The Vinyl: The vinyl surfaces are in Very Good condition and have retained their first pressed jet black sheen and robustness with no dulling and have clean grooves.
The surfaces look fresh with no scratches and nothing feelable, and other than several light superficial hairline marks on either side and wispy sleeve/ cleaning trails visible in bright the vinyl surfaces look very fresh.
The record lays completely flat on the turntable, and looks clean.
Manufactured on heavy 174 gram early sixties vinyl.
The labels are Excellent; the spindle location area has only a tiny amount of wear in one particular point on each side. There are no spindle line traces to be seen. The spindle hole fits perfectly on the spindle point.
The Silver text is complete and clear and bright and contrasts well against the black label.
No sticker or sticker residue.
His Master's Voice text around outer rim.
XEX-421 in run-out groove on side 1, XEX-422 in run-out groove on side 2.

The Audio: Excellent Minus
Other than the very occasional pop and light tick there are no detractions which lessen the original audio quality, as both sides plays smoothly from start to finish with near Excellent crisp and clear quality. The run-in groovesto each track are quiet and there is no unwanted background noise on the song tracks. There are no distortions that would warrant a lower audio grading.
No crackling, no skips or jumps and no sticks.
This LP sounds as fresh and original as those first UK issues.
This iconic first LP by the biggest band of all time is bound to still be playable in decades to come as it had been manufactued extremely well in New Zealand, and still has a close to excellent audio rendition after all these years.

The LP will be delivered in a quality two part deep cardboard LP mailer with stifferners.
The record placed separately in a plain generic inner to prevent wear to the original.
Also comes housed in a PVC record protector.
Item will be marked as fragile and sent with quick dispatch, next day signed for in the UK.
International postage will be tracked and a tracking number will be provided.
