London-based Irish folk-punk outfit The Pogues made one of their most enduring songs with 'Fairytale Of New York', first released in 1987 and conceived titularly after JP Donleavy's novel before the band wrote a single verse. This mysterious new 7" edition pairs the studio cut with its instrumental and folds in a Glasgow Barrowland recording of 'Dirty Old Town' from December 1987. The real draw is a completely unheard live 'Fairytale Of New York' rendition from the same night: the first time the group played it onstage and the moment Kirsty MacColl stepped into her role alongside Shane MacGowan. Steve Lillywhite, who produced the original single, returns to remix and reproduce the newly unearthed performance for this zoetrope-printed EP, with real imagery from the historic music video.
