A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL COPY OF PORTISHEAD'S REMARKABLE DEBUT - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Portishead's album debut is a brilliant, surprisingly natural synthesis of claustrophobic spy soundtracks, dark breakbeats inspired by frontman Geoff Barrow's love of hip-hop, and a vocalist (Beth Gibbons) in the classic confessional singer/songwriter mold.
Beginning with the otherworldly theremin and martial beats of "Mysterons," Dummy hits an early high with "Sour Times," a post-modern torch song driven by a Lalo Schifrin sample. The chilling atmospheres conjured by Adrian Utley's excellent guitar work and Barrow's turntables and keyboards prove the perfect foil for Gibbons, who balances sultriness and melancholia in equal measure. Gibbons provides a clear focus for these songs, with Barrow and company behind her laying down one of the best full-length productions ever heard in the dance world.
Where previous acts like Massive Attack had attracted dance audience in the main, Portishead crossed over to an American, alternative audience, connecting with the legion of angst-ridden indie fans as well.
Better than any album before it, Dummy merged the pinpoint-precise productions of the dance world with pop hallmarks like great songwriting and excellent vocal performances.

LABELS: CLEAN and FRESH with NO wear, NO writing and NO evident spindle traces
VINYL Visual: All surfaces have their original SHEEN and are practically UNMARKED (there are some pressing blemishes common on many contemporary pressings but these have no audio consequence)
VINYL Audio: WARM, DEEP, RICH sound - A REALLY BEAUTIFUL LP. There are NO scratches, NO jumps or sticks and barely any clicks/pops (really, hardly any and mostly on "Glory Box" but nothing i found intrusive). Difficult LP to find in such excellent playing condition as it has many sparse moments which can be easily spoilt by excessive surface interference but the sound quality here is SUPERB and the record plays to a very high standard with NO groove-wear and NO distortion (it's hardly been played). Critically graded EXCELLENT to (+) for audio
SLEEVE: The 1st issue cover is EXCELLENT+ with minimal edge wear, clean, unrubbed surfaces and a sharp spine with all text CLEAR and BOLD
INNER SLEEVE: NEAR MINT- CLEAN, SHARP and FRESH and almost AS-NEW with NO splits to any of the edges (just a slight impression of the record). The LP is now housed in a new inner to protect the original from any ‘knifing’ during transit
