Reuniting in full for the first time since 2017, Chicago-based psych-rock group Post Animal return with a renewed sense of unity and purpose. Iron, their fourth full-length, captures the warmth, looseness and spark of close-quarters collaboration-cut over a month at a remote Indiana home studio, with Joe Keery back in the fold. Opening instrumental 'Malcolm's Cooking' sets the tone: intimate, unguarded, and full of character. From the soft-edged ache of 'Last Goodbye' to the orchestral whimsy of 'Dorien Kregg', the band shift fluidly across synth-flecked psych, AM radio harmonies and jittery guitar pop. 'Maybe You Have To' stands out as its most affecting track-a meditation on loss that's both raw and beautiful. Despite their time apart, Post Animal sound instinctive and lockstep throughout. Whether channeling folk, prog or power pop, they never lose touch with the record's emotional centre: the joy of creating together again.
