"Graffiti Bridge" is the twelfth studio album by Prince and the soundtrack to his 1990 movie of the same name. The album features a mix of funk, rock, and soul, and showcases Prince's wide-ranging musical talents.
The album opens with the energetic "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got," which features Prince's signature guitar riffs and a driving beat. Other standout tracks include "Thieves in the Temple," which has a memorable chorus and a pulsing rhythm, and "New Power Generation," a funky track that features a horn section and powerful vocals.
The album also includes some ballads, such as "The Question of U" and "Still Would Stand All Time," which showcase Prince's soulful singing and emotional depth. The album's title track, "Graffiti Bridge," is a beautiful instrumental piece that features Prince's virtuosic guitar playing.
Overall, "Graffiti Bridge" is a solid album that showcases Prince's range as a musician and songwriter. While it may not be as well-known or as critically acclaimed as some of his other albums, it still contains some great songs and is worth a listen for any Prince fan.
This album was produced and manufactured using Direct Metal Mastering:
Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) is a technique for cutting vinyl records that has gained popularity in recent years. This process differs from traditional mastering in that the signal is cut directly onto the metal stamper, rather than onto a lacquer disc which is then used to create the stamper. This technique offers several advantages over traditional methods.
The DMM process involves using a heated stylus to cut the groove directly into a metal disc, which is typically made of copper. The copper disc is then used to create the stamper, which is used to press vinyl records. Because the signal is cut directly into the metal, there is no need for a lacquer intermediate disc, which can introduce noise and distortion into the final product.
One advantage of DMM is that it produces records with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than traditional methods. The lack of a lacquer intermediate means that there is less surface noise and fewer pops and clicks in the final product. Additionally, because the signal is cut directly into the metal, the resulting groove is sharper and more defined, which can improve the clarity and detail of the sound.
Another advantage of DMM is that it is a more durable process. Traditional lacquer masters are fragile and can degrade over time, whereas metal masters can be used to produce many more copies of a record without losing fidelity. This makes DMM a good choice for producing high-quality records in large quantities.
However, there are also some disadvantages to DMM. Because the process involves cutting the groove directly into the metal, the stylus can wear down more quickly than with traditional methods, which can result in a shorter lifespan for the stamper. Additionally, because the process involves a heated stylus, there is a risk of the metal becoming overheated, which can cause the groove to become distorted.
In conclusion, Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) is a technique for cutting vinyl records that has gained popularity in recent years due to its advantages over traditional methods. DMM produces records with a higher signal-to-noise ratio and greater detail and clarity, and it is also a more durable process that can produce high-quality records in large quantities. However, there are also some disadvantages to DMM, including the risk of stylus wear and the potential for overheating.
This is the Specialty Records Corporation pressing with “DMM” etched in the dead wax on all four sides.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
The vinyl is mostly perfect but there are just a few very light marks on side 4 and there is also a slight storage warp. I have graded the vinyl “EX”.
The double album comes in its original, custom, inner sleeves, which are UNIQUE to this album.
The cover has very little wear. (EX).
