PROCOL HARUM - debut - 2 copies – UK Regal Zonophone (G) + US Deram (Ex)   

These records are all from my personal collection built up over almost 50 years. Some were bought new, others pre-owned so condition will vary. Please do read and understand the detailed description which is my honest personal assessment - you can always check how good or bad that is by checking my feedback. My attempt at grading is based on the commonly used Record Collector grading system. Questions are welcome if anything is unclear. Happy bidding

The Album:
The brilliant Procol Harum, very much of their time in ’67. For some weird reason, their UK debut LP did not include ‘A Whiter shade of pale’ which may account for why it did not sell so well, hence its rarity. The American issue did have that track (replacing ‘Good Captain Clack’). I therefore bought the US version but later managed to pick up a rough copy of the rare UK version which grades just about Good. This lot includes both albums – the US copy is EX and the UK copy is quite scratchy so more of interest value rather than quality.

Condition:
Cover:  The UK front-laminated flipback sleeve is just about OK. It has laminate creasing, ringwear, a 1” split on the opening edge. Spine is quite well defined and text perfectly legible. Overall, it’s probably around 'good'.
The US heavy card sleeve is great - which is not something you can often say about that type of sleeve – with just some light wear .. excellent.
Labels: UK Regal Zonophone blue labels are ok - clean, no stickers but quite a few spindle marks. Mother / stamper combination identifies this as among the first 1500 or so pressed.
The US Deram copy has lovely clean labels, no writing, no stickers, no spindle marks – again excellent
Vinyl: UK vinyl has lots of surface scrapes though fortunately no deep scratches. I just played it through and it plays with general background crackle throughout - but I did stop noticing that and found that I actually prefer this mono original to the perfectly clean US Deram stereo version (which of course plays excellently).

Please note that I try to test-play at least part of each record before listing, but do not have time to play fully in all cases. I just played a lot of this one, but if you do discover a problem which I might have missed, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do all I can to rectify the situation. .

Postage: Reflecting new Royal Mail charges April 2014: Within UK, weight ranges usually allow up to three LPs to be posted for the same cost as one. For all other destinations costs are weight dependent, but incremental cost from additional LP's will normally cost less than the first. I am happy to hold records for a while if you wish to bid on more and combine shipment, but it helps if you can let me know particularly when bidding on items separated by a few days. Approximate prices for normal postage & packing -

UK £3.55 for up to 1kg (1,2 or 3 average weight LPs). 

Europe £7.00 normal airmail, £12.00 signed-for for the two albums

Rest of world £10.50 normal airmail, £15.50 signed-for for the two albums.  

These amounts include actual Royal Mail cost for first class or air mail, plus 35p for cost of packaging material (a brand new custom mailer with stiffener). The greedy snouts in the trough at Ebay now charge sellers 10% of postage costs for which there can be no justification - I refuse to pass this shameful levy on to buyers, so you only pay post and packing.

Apologies, but owing to unreliability of some postal services, I will not ship to Italy, Russian Federation, & other former Soviet countries unless a signed for service is selected and paid for.

Losses: Royal Mail have reduced maximum compensation to £20 unless items are signed-for. Compensation on signed-for shipments is up to £50. Overseas purchasers - if your purchase is well over £20, a signed for service must be selected when paying or shipping will be at your own risk, not mine, and normal airmail will only be covered for up to £20.

I have decided to sell my whole vinyl collection as I know it won't be appreciated by my daughter or grandchildren, so I'm shifting it myself and hope I find good homes for it. Listed items are selected at random so there should be a decent if not particularly logical mix coming up over the next few months if you keep an eye on my other items now and in the future.
