Procul Harum : Procul Harum 2/2 1st Mono Press Regal Zonophone 1967

This very collectable first mono pressing plays to an incredible standard with no intrusion.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is sensational and it is without doubt a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either, it is a masterpiece!  The vinyl is visually so impressive and there is nothing that really stands out.  This whole album has been so well preserved.

That applies to the G & L Patents pending laminated cover also which is just STUNNING!  It is Near Mint and you would not be disappointed if you had just bought this brand new from a record shop!  It has retained its original shape and structure perfectly and really is a work of art!  A true fact actually as it was indeed shown in a major Tate Britain exhibition in 2020!  The Patents Applied For inner sleeve is also in superb condition.

This first pressing has the R1 stampers which was the first known ones used.  This record was certainly one of the first off the press back in '67!

Visual description

The vinyl is in great condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen and no scratches.  There are a couple of faint radial type lines on each side and a couple of very minor blemishes on S2 but these have no affect on the superb audio.  Aside from that I can only see a few very faint hairlines and for 57 years old this mono pressing is in superb shape.  The run out grooves are very clean and the Regal Zonophone labels just have a little spindle wear, not an excessive amount.

Play grading

From the very note 'Conquistador' plays so clearly with no intrusion.  Every vocal and instrumental section plays with such quality and there is not one single negative.  I only 'heard' a couple of minor statics at the beginning but so quiet and hardly worth a mention.  The clarity is stunning from start to finish and Mint- is deserved at the very least.

The percussive intro on 'She Wandered Through The Garden Fence' is perfect and Brooker's opening is just as strong.  It continues to play with a clarity and depth that can only be described 'as new' and again there is nothing to detract from the audio.  Mint- all the way.

The piano intro on 'Something Following Me' plays beautifully with not so much as a dust tick and the rest of the track plays to the same high end standard.  So far this classic album is playing with incredible sonic quality!  Mint

Another quiet intro on 'Mabel' and another that plays with perfect clarity.  From then on it plays so well with no ticks, clicks, pops or static and again Mint is deserved.

The entire intro on 'Cerdes (Outside The Gates Of)' is stunning - such clean audio and not one dust tick let alone anything more.  The opening vocal is on the same level and it continues in the same way.  The mid instrumental is so deep and strong and the track has no inner groove distortion.  Actually maybe just a minimal amount right at the end but again there's no real need for me to mention this!  A stunning Mint- version but as I sometimes say I'm not sure if the minus is needed.

The piano intro on 'A Christmas Camel' plays perfectly and Brooker's opening vocal section is just as impressive.  From then on you cannot fault the quality of the audio.  No ticks, clicks etc just pure clean audio from start to finish.  The mid instrumental including Trower's superb solo is so strong and clear.  Mint

'Kaleidoscope' plays with sublime clarity once more - every vocal and instrumental section is stunning and even the long fade out has no background.  Mint

'Salad Days (Are Here Again)' keeps up the standard and plays with exceptional clarity and warmth throughout.  The quiet piano intro is 100% perfect and this high end level does not drop.  If I was being super harsh there are a handful of very quiet statics but unless you are listening very intently you would miss them.  Mint- is still very much deserved.

The intro on 'Good Captain Clack' has intrusion and the opening vocal is equal to that.  It proceeds in the same way - the multi-layered chorus is perhaps not as clean and precise as the rest of the track but I'm sure that is just how it was recorded / produced, there is no interference I hasten to add.  Mint-

The final track 'Repent Walpurgis' plays with stunning quality through every instrumental section.  Fisher's work is so strong and Trower's first solo is on a par with that, superb sound!  Brooker's quiet piano section is incredible!  There is basically no background aside from one mega quiet static and the rest of this classic plays with outstanding clarity and power.  No distortion to be heard and I truly believe Mint is a fair assessment of the audio.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

As stated this cover has been preserved beautifully!  I have never seen a more stunning example and it has no noticeable wear at all.  The edges and spine are perfect and there is only the tiniest of rubs on the bottom right corner, hardly worth a mention.  The other corners are so clean and the opening edge looks hardly touched with no 'feathering' at each end which you often see.  The laminated front cover is stunning with no creasing or marking and the back cover in a sense is even more impressive because it isn't laminated.  It is so clean without any marking and the flipbacks remain perfectly attached to the cover.  There is hardly any marking on the flipback edges which is such a rarity and there is just one very minor crease on the flipback near the bottom left corner.  It doesn't get any better than this and Near Mint is well deserved in my opinion.

The original Patents Applied For inner sleeve is in superb condition with no side splits and barely any marking or creasing.  There is just one very small mark on the reverse side.  No age related fading and it looks like it has hardly seen the light of day which may well be the case of course!

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
